The 10th annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival is scheduled for April 27.
The 10th annual Three Rivers Community Band Festival in Upper St. Clair will bring together three of the best community bands in the western Pennsylvania region, plus an all-new festival band. The festival is scheduled from 2:30 until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, at the Upper St. Clair Theater, located in Upper St. Clair High School. Admission is free, although donations are appreciated. The Three Rivers Community Band Festival is a showcase of the musically-talented individuals in the region, and the concert promises a medley of music that will appeal to a wide range of musical tastes. More than 400 schools participated in the tournament.
Upper St. Clair High School is celebrating its success at the PHSSL State Tournament. "We had an outstanding weekend, with three state champions, three more third-place finishers and numerous quarter and semi-finalists on the team," head coach Rich Platts said. "By far, our team's most successful showing at this prestigious event." Upper St. Clair finished second overall in the state just behind Philadelphia powerhouse Holy Ghost Prep, and won a rotating award called the Lutz Award. Get your tickets!
After helping with this past weekend's Easter egg hunt, the Upper St. Clair High School's Interact Club is already preparing for its next event. Tickets are available for their Family Spaghetti Dinner Night. The event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 7 in the high school's nutrition center. Tickets purchased in advance cost $8 for adults and $5 for kids. Tickets will also be available at the door and will cost $10 for adults and $7 for kids. Corey was nominated by members of the Upper St. Clair community, as a standout example of a positive athlete in the Pittsburgh area. In order for Corey to win the title, he needs your help. Beginning today, March 14, you can vote for Corey on the Positive Athlete Pittsburgh Facebook Page by "liking" his photo. The athlete with the most "likes" by midnight March 20 will be named the Positive Athlete of the Week, will be featured on MSA's Positive Athlete Spotlight and will also remain in contention for the Positive High School Athlete Award given out in April. The consortium kicked off with a student leadership conference this week.
The Peters Township High School executive council kicked off their effort to establish a network of student leaders this week. The Pennsylvania Student Leadership Consortium held a student leadership conference on Feb. 28 in Peters this week, with the participation of Upper St. Clair High School students. The conference focused on building relationships, sharing ideas and working toward collective collaborative action between school districts. Also taking part in the consortium were students from Elizabeth Forward, Mt. Lebanon, North Hills, Quaker Valley, Ringgold, South Fayette and South Park. The following Upper St. Clair High School students have been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program: They are among an elite group of nearly 15,000 students nationwide to earn the honor and will now be included in the scholarship awards competition. The students are evaluated based on their academic record, information about the school's curricula and grading system, two sets of test scores, a written recommendation, information about the student's activities and leadership, and a personal essay. There are four musicals planned this spring.
The Upper St. Clair School District is seeking donations from businesses or individuals for a $14,000 wireless microphone system to enhance the sound quality of the Upper St. Clair High School, Fort Couch Middle School and Boyce Middle School musical productions. Organizers are seeking show underwriters to donate $1,000 or more for each musical production or a single diamond sponsor to donate $5,000 for all of the spring musicals. Every underwriter and the sponsor will receive advertising in some of the musical programs, a large display outside the Upper St. Clair High School Theater and/or Boyce Middle School Theater, permanent recognition on a plaque mounted in the Arts Lobby of the high school and a very personal congratulatory …
