The Bethel Park man was targeted in an IRS investigation into restaurant owners that were not reporting their gross receipts accurately.
A Bethel Park man has been sentenced in federal court three years probation on his conviction of committing tax fraud. Chief United States District Judge Gary L. Lancaster imposed the sentence on Thomas N. Liadis, Sr., 61, of the Dorchester Towers apartment complex in Bethel Park. According to a news release provided by U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton, Liadis was the owner of the Grecian Isles local chain of Greek restaurants in the Pittsburgh area, with locations at the PPG building, USX Tower and Station Square. In 2010, Liadis was targeted in a proactive IRS investigation into restaurant owners that were not reporting their gross receipts accurately to the IRS. The professional soccer team will be leaving Chartiers Valley High School after playing there the past five years.
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are moving from the creek to the river. The team announced Tuesday it will be moving its games from Chartiers Valley High School and plans to be build a 3,500-seat multi-sport stadium in Station Square next to the Monongahela River. The Riverhounds, which play in the professional United Soccer League, spent the past five seasons at the high school. The school district made about $12,000 in rent and concessions each year during the annual contracts. Nicholas Morelli, Chartiers Valley’s business manager, said the mid-summer completion date leaves the door open for the Riverhounds to play some games at the high school. “They did indicate to us that they’d liked to talk to us about a 2012 lease agreement,” Morelli …

Local celebrities, such as Rose Tennant and Athena Sarris, will 'dance for a cause' in Station Square—an event presented by Arthur Murray Dance Studio and Watchful Shepherd USA.
Stars will be out when local celebrities, hometown heroes and concerned citizens gather to raise funds to help fight child abuse. “Dancing for a Cause” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at the Sheraton Station Square. The event will offer food, entertainment and dancing, with all proceeds benefiting Watchful Shepherd USA and its mission to prevent child abuse. In theory, I agree. But a consumption tax, I suspect, would open up a black market in goods because everyone tries to find a way around paying taxes. And as far as people paying more taxes than they owe, I know that is true in some cases, but people being paid "under-the-table" and under-reporting income is so prevalent, that it is a much bigger problem.   more ›
