A Cecil Township man is being charged with DUI and other crimes after he crashed into a tanker truck Friday afternoon, causing lengthy delays. Devin D. Carter, 38, was arrested minutes after the crash along Bower Hill Road on Feb. 8 after Bridgeville police officers said they spotted him walking away from the scene. Investigators said they believe Carter was under the influence of drugs when he crossed the centerline and crashed into the side of the tanker. The truck’s fuel tank ruptured, spilling diesel onto the roadway, although the used motor oil it was transporting did not leak, police said. Police said Carter failed a field sobriety test and claimed to be “still recovering from a hangover from the Super Bowl” even though the game was …

A mammogram detected Susan Castriota's breast cancer, but she believes one of her dogs was trying to send her a message long before her diagnosis.
Susan Castriota, of Upper St. Clair, is recovering from breast cancer. A mammogram in October revealed she had stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. Soon after her diagnosis she said she realized one of her dogs knew she was sick long before she knew she was. "After receiving the news of my illness, I realized that Bella, one of my beloved Havanese dogs, had been paying an inordinate amount of attention to, and sniffing, my breast when I would get up in the morning," Susan said. Susan gave little thought at that time as Bella had always been a sniffer—smelling for every little morsel of dog food left behind by Kiki and Wilson, her other two dogs. But now she thinks Bella was trying to tell her something. "I believe that Bella detected my …

The baby is named after family members who came to America on the Mayflower, according to Dad.
Alden William Johnson was the first baby born in 2013 at St. Clair Hospital. Alden arrived at 8:26 a.m.—four days after his due date—and weighed a whopping 11 pounds, 3 ounces. "It's exciting, 1-1-13, it's definitely memorable. It's totally not what we were expecting," said Alden's father, John Johnson. "The nurses were excited, too. Especially with him being such a big baby." John said he and mom, Jessica Johnson, might have been a bit more nervous than the average first-time parents. They are both nurses. "Well we know more than most people, so we get nervous. But everything went well. No problems," John said. John and Jessica have been married for five years and were neighbors as they grew up in Washington County. The name Alden William…

Just an observation....the article says the family is from Mt. Lebanon. Isn't this an Upper St. Clair patch. I thought Lebo has their own patch website. I just don't see the relevance of the story on our neighborhood website.   more ›
