Upper St. Clair Cheerleaders Uplift Race for the Cure Finishers

Participants received cheers from the local girls in Oakland on Sunday.

The Upper St. Clair High School cheerleaders traded in their red for pink on Sunday in support of breast cancer awareness.  More than 40 cheerleaders greeted Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure runners and walkers at the finish line on Mother's Day.  The girls said they were inspired by the hope and courage of the breast cancer survivors and their supporters. Chair of 21st Annual Pittsburgh Race for the Cure Announced

The Indiana, PA resident is the first chairperson from outside Allegheny County.

The Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has named Kerri Colvin Ballas as the chair of the Pittsburgh 2013 Race for the Cure. A resident of Indiana, PA, Ballas is the first chairperson for the Pittsburgh Race hailing from outside of Allegheny County. This year’s race will take place on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, on Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park, Oakland. A six-year breast cancer survivor, Ballas became involved with Komen in 2007 when she first ran the Pittsburgh Race with friends while she was undergoing chemotherapy.  “I was hooked on hope and on raising money for Komen,” Ballas says. “Raising awareness and funds for Komen gave me the opportunity to fight back and help other women.”            Now, Ballas and her team, Paint …

Discounted Early Registrations Available for 2013 'Race for the Cure'

Act now through Dec. 31.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a fitting time to let local runners and walkers know that discounted "Early Bird" registration is available through Dec. 31 for the 2013 Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure. The annual event, which will be headquartered on Flagstaff Hill at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill South neighborhood next May 12 normally costs $30 (5,000-meter timed run) and $25 (untimed events) for non-breast-cancer-surviving adults. But "Early Birds" can knock $5 off of all registration fees. A full list of normal fees is available here. Komen Pittsburgh Affiliate Grants $1.8 Million to Local Organizations

This year, the organization breaks a record.

The Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® announced Monday that it will grant $1.8 million to local organizations for use toward breast cancer education, screening and treatment initiatives during the next year. This is the largest grant made in the history of the Komen Pittsburgh Affiliate, and it is the seventh consecutive year the organization will donate more than $1 million locally to the fight against breast cancer. Adagio Health will receive funds for the Mammogram Voucher Program, which provides women in need with free mammograms and follow-up services. Other grants will support breast education, screening and treatment initiatives within the Affiliate’s 30-county service area in central and western Pennsylvania. "…

Celebrating 20 years in 2012, online registration for the Susan G. Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure® is now open. Sleep in for the Cure® is back by popular demand, and new this year is Babies for the Cure® for the tiniest supporters in the fight against breast cancer.
