Miracle League Field Opens in Upper St. Clair

"It's all about these kids and it always has been," said Sean Casey, former MLB all-star and Upper St. Clair resident who started the project two years ago.

What was once an old farm field has transformed into a place where children and adults of all abilities will be able to enjoy the game of baseball. Players, volunteers, families and community leaders gathered at the brand new Pirates Charities Miracle League Field of the South Hills Saturday, located next to the Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park, to celebrate. "This is just so cool," said Sean Casey, former MLB all-star and Upper St. Clair resident. "I'm grateful to see all of these great big hearts here." Sean Casey and his wife, Mandi, started Casey's Clubhouse two years ago to raise $1 million to build a Miracle League Field in Upper St. Clair. Photos: Miracle Field Milestone

It was a special moment for everyone involved in the development of the Pirates Charities Miracle League of the South Hills.

Friday was a momentous morning for the people involved in the Pirates Charities Miracle League of the South Hills. Around 11 a.m., a team of men and a forklift raised a 500-pound bronze plate—shaped like a baseball field—honoring the people and companies who donated a large amount of money to build the baseball field designed for kids with special needs. "It highlights what the field stands for and all the work everyone's done," said Kyle Robinson, a former Upper St. Clair Public Works employee who has volunteered his time as the field's construction manager. More bronze plaques will be drilled underneath the field plaque, and in the two bricks walls to the left and right, in the coming days—representing others who have donated money to …

Miracles Happen Thanks To Events Like The JBJ Baseball Classic

Upper St. Clair's annual charity baseball game donated Saturday's proceeds to the Miracle League fund which is helping build a ballpark for special needs children at the Boyce-Mayview Field.

It was 30 minutes before the eighth annual JBJ Baseball Classic and men of all ages were arriving for their annual charity game. Some guys prepared with the traditional long toss, others using the simplified method of knee bends while puffing on a stogie. Each player's $75-$100 donation went entirely to the Pirates Charities Miracle Field of South Hills which is being built next to the site of Saturday's charity game at the Boyce-Mayview field at the Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center. In return, each player received a $30 gift certificate to StonePepper's. The field, which costs around $1 million to build is making great progress. The dugouts are visible and the shape of the field can be clearly seen. The field is expected to…
