PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road in Dormont until next week.
PennDOT is delaying the construction work on Banksville Road until next week. The work was scheduled to begin Thursday morning and continue through Monday, but rain showers in the Pittsburgh area pushed construction back a few days. Construction is now expected to begin Monday and continue until Wednesday night. Crews plan to install crosswalk markings at various intersections and pave Helen Street at the intersection with Banksville Road. The northbound lanes of Banksville Road will be restricted from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The southbound lanes will be under construction from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the three days of work. The Bikram Yoga, which has numerous hot yoga franchises around the country, will be the first one in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.
A Bikram Yoga is planned for Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. The hot yoga center, which has numerous franchise locations around the country, will be the first one in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Ignacio Filippini, who lives in Peters Township and plans to move to Mt. Lebanon, said he hopes to open his new business in June. After graduating from the Bikram Yoga College of India a few years ago, he’s worked full-time as a yoga instructor at 15 studios in the United States and Canada. The old Roth Carpet building in Mt. Lebanon is finally being demolished to make way for The Fresh Market grocery store. Demolition crews were at the property along Route 19 this past week ripping down the existing building with excavators and hauling off the debris in dump trucks. The property will be the site of The Fresh Market grocery store that offers “an old-style butcher shop and fish market, bakery, produce and floral stands.” A company spokeswoman said a lease has been signed for the location, but an opening date has not been set. She could not comment on the construction timeline, but said it is expected to begin relatively soon. A new Pure Barre studio is opening in Mt. Lebanon this January. The studio will feature ballet barre workouts that have exploded in popularity since its inception in 2001. Focusing on the body parts women struggle with the most, the Pure Barre workout lifts the seat, tones the thighs and upper body, and creates the long and lean muscles of a dancer through small isometric movements centered around a ballet barre. The studio located at 1612 Cochran Rd. will operate seven days a week, offering several classes a day. Melissa Evancic is the owner. The Derkosh family of Whitehall Borough is asking that interested parties, in lieu of flowers, give toy construction trucks to be donated to a children's Christmas charity in the memory of 2-year old Maddox Derkosh, who died tragically at the Pittsburgh Zoo on Sunday. The trucks are being accepted right now at William Slater II Funeral Service in Scott Township. They will also be accepted at Derkosh's funeral Mass at St. Bernard Church in Mt. Lebanon at 10 a.m. on Friday. Trucks can also be dropped off at the Whitehall Police Department lobby throughout Wednesday. Before Friday's funeral and toy trucks collection, friends will be welcomed for a viewing of Maddox at the Slater Funeral Service in Scott Township from 2 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. …

Developer would like to build next to KinderCare.
A developer proposed to the Upper St. Clair Planning Commission Thursday night to demolish the existing house at 1630 North Highland Rd. and build a Goddard School daycare center. The property sits next to the existing KinderCare of Mt. Lebanon on North Highland Road. The planning commissioners tabled the hearing Thursday night so the developer, Alex Bonson, could work out some issues with the township staff. The property is zoned R-3, which requires the daycare property to be at least 1 acre. The property is just .994 acres.
