Pets for Adoption: Meet Leonidas!

You can call him Leon for short.

Meet Leonidas, also known as Leon! He's a cute 11-month old-Pit Bull Terrier mix who came to Animal Rescue League in Pittsburgh as a stray. Like most dogs his age, Leon is very active and could benefit from continued obedience training. Based on observation, he may be house-trained. He loved being with our volunteers getting his pictures taken, and will most likely be a very affectionate companion. Leonidas would be good for a novice owner and folks with an active lifestyle. That cute little face is hard to resist! For inquiries about Leon, contact his volunteer friend Sean at penguinsf@comcast.net. Leon's adoption fee is $115. Lil' Ling Ling Longing for New Home

This Shar Pei was left due to landlord issues.

Meet Lil' Ling Ling—a unique Shar Pei mix in need of a "furever" home. The 2 year old was surrendered to the Animal Rescue League due to landlord issues. Her owner said Ling Ling loves car rides and other dogs and cats. She's also house trained. Ling Ling had eye surgery and, as a result, her eyelashes were growing inward and causing some irritation, so Animal Rescue League staff members recommend a home with older children.  One staff member recently took Ling Ling to an adoption event. The staff member said Ling Ling was well behaved. Ling Ling was a bit shy, possibly due to her sore eye, but allowed people to pet her and gave out a lot of kisses. "We think she will make a wonderful companion with the right family with previous dog …

He’s a large breed dog who finds himself at the Animal Rescue League shelter due to his owner's move. His former owner told the shelter volunteers that Justice is extremely loyal and is a terrific companion The ARL recommends that Justice go to a home with children older than 5 because he is very affectionate and strong, and he has not yet been taught not to jump on people. Justice listens well on a walk, wants to please and appears to be a fast learner. He also likes to play with toys. With a little basic training Justice has the potential to be a wonderful family member. Justice is currently spending some time in a foster home, …

Shepherd Mix Looking for a Home

Ford is a one-year-old Shepherd/mix at Animal Rescue League.

According to the Animal Rescue League, 1-year-old Ford is a fun-loving and energetic Shepherd mix. He is very sweet and possesses the intelligence that German Shepherds are known for. However, the Rescue League recommends that he attend obedience classes to curb some of his youthful enthusiasm. Because of his high energy level, it is also recommended that Ford not be adopted into a home with small children. Obedience training is an excellent way to bond with your dog, the Rescue League says, and also helps with socialization of your dog with other dogs, and with other people. Animal Rescue League offers training classes at its shelter, and Ford's adoption includes 3 private sessions. Ford appears to like other dogs, although if you have a …

Daria Triumphs Neglect, Still in Need of Help

Daria is described as a sweet and trusting dog.

Daria is a 5-year-old Mastiff mix in need of a loving home. She has survived years of extreme neglect. "This sweet and trusting dog is most deserving of a special home. Daria's incredible spirit and resilience is evident after hearing her sad story," according to the Animal Rescue League. Daria was kept as an outdoor dog somewhere in Beaver County. She managed to escape the home and came back with an eye injury, a possible result of a dogfight or cruel person. Her owner panicked and instead of bringing her to the vet, left Daria at a shelter tied to a water spicket. The owner later called the shelter anonymously and said Daria lived with older kids in her former home and was good with them. She also is said to be generally house trained. …

There are more than 200 dogs at the shelter, and Sept. 11 marked Trigger's three-year anniversary there.
