Washington Road Improvements Set for This Weekend

Drivers should expect delays and allow extra time.

Heading into town this weekend? Work to improve Washington Road (Route 19/3069) nearby in Mt. Lebanon will cause some traffic delays this weekend, May 3-6, weather permitting. Single-lane closures will occur from 6 p.m. on Friday through 6 a.m. on Monday on Washington Road between Connor/Gilkeson (Route 3038) roads and Cochran Road. One lane will remain open in each direction. Single-lane closures will occur northbound on Washington Road from Cochran Road to Alfred Street from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Monday. Crews will be conducting concrete base repairs. Motorists are advised to use caution and be aware of changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Expect delays and allow extra time. Nearby Road Project Expected to Make 'Significant Impact' on Traffic

Access to Route 19 from Valley Brook Road will be totally eliminated.

Drivers who travel through Peters Township are preparing for a signicant construction project on Valley Brook Road. Access to Washington Road from Valley Brook Road will be totally eliminated, scheduled to begin May 15. The only access to Valley Brook Road from Washington Road will be to the western side on the ramp by TAR Storage. The project is expected to last 14 months. Access to Old Washington to and from Valley Brook will also be eliminated. The official detour is Boyce Road to Mayview and East McMurray to Washington Road. East McMurray is expected to have the most impact, which has four schools along it, as well as the main fire station, police station and EMS station. Bikram Yoga Center Coming to the South Hills

The Bikram Yoga, which has numerous hot yoga franchises around the country, will be the first one in the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

A Bikram Yoga is planned for Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon. The hot yoga center, which has numerous franchise locations around the country, will be the first one in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Ignacio Filippini, who lives in Peters Township and plans to move to Mt. Lebanon, said he hopes to open his new business in June. After graduating from the Bikram Yoga College of India a few years ago, he’s worked full-time as a yoga instructor at 15 studios in the United States and Canada. He hopes to pass on what he’s learned to people of all fitness levels. “They taught me how to work with people of all different physical and mental abilities and how to optimize the Bikram practice for each individual’s specific needs,” Filippini said of his …

Chipotle Set to Open in January

The Mexican restaurant will replace Pearl Vision.

A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open in Upper St. Clair on Jan. 23, according to a Chipotle official. The restuarant joins Norman Centre on Washington Road in the former Pearl Vision store. In September, commissioners approved the addition of 22 more parking spots to accomodate the restaurant. What do you think about the addition of Chipotle to our neighborhood? The Fresh Market May Soon Be Coming To Route 19

Representatives for the gourmet supermarket will seek approval from Mt. Lebanon commissioners on June 12.

The Fresh Market could soon be coming to the South Hills. The gourmet supermarket chain is seeking approval from Mt. Lebanon commissioners to demolish the Roth Carpet building on the corner of Washington and Connor roads and build the new grocery store. The Fresh Market received a recommendation for final approval from the Mt. Lebanon Planning Board on April 24. Commissioners are scheduled to vote on the plan on June 12. If The Fresh Market receives final approval in June, representatives said construction would begin as soon as possible. It would be the first store in the Pittsburgh area and the third in Pennsylvania. The Fresh Market's application has been under consideration since last summer. UPDATE: Power Restored After Tree Causes Outage

All power was back on in Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park at 1:25 p.m.

All power is back on in Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park after a fallen tree caused a major outage late Friday morning. The outage began at 10:51 a.m. and affected 650 customers, according to West Penn Power. Bethel Park police told Patch the outage affected the "whole north end of Bethel Park." A number of traffic lights were out along Washington and Fort Couch roads, causing for some confusion amongst motorists. Businesses in Norman Centre II and Chick-fil-A were without power. South Hills Village was also affected by the outage; its Internet was not working. All power was restored at 1:25 p.m. Were you affected by this power outage? Tell us in the comments.

Look Out for Route 19 Lane Closures Wednesday and Thursday

Expect delays while traveling on Washington Road through Mt. Lebanon.

There will be single lane closures in both directions on Route 19 (Washington Road) in Mount Lebanon on Wednesday and Thursday, May 9-10, weather permitting according to PennDOT. Crews will be drilling pavement core samples for a future improvement project on Route 19 between Connor Road (Route 3038) and Alfred Street. Restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Both directions will not be restricted simultaneously.  SJB Services Inc. will be performing the work. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect delays when traveling through the area.
