In the proposed final budget approved by the Upper St. Clair School Board Monday night, the following seven professional staff positions are being cut: In the plan, two aides will also be cut: The professional teacher reductions will result in $550,000 in savings. The two support staff cuts will equal $85,000 in savings. The positions are available for elimination due to retirements. Upper St. Clair School teachers voted 170 to 61 Friday evening to accept a new teacher contract with the district. After the ratification, school board members met at 8 p.m. Friday and voted 8 to 1 to approve the agreement. The new contract will save the district more than $3.7 million in its first two years. The four-year contract replaces the prior contract that was not due to expire for another two years. The most significant changes in the agreement are in salary compensation and a no furlough guarantee. In the 2012-13 and 2013-14 school years, teachers will use their 2009-10 salary schedule. Teachers will vote Friday evening on whether to accept a proposal from the Upper St. Clair School District that would modify their current contracts. Superintendent Patrick O'Toole said at Thursday night's school board meeting that if the teachers reject the proposal, the district will need to move forward with significant cost-saving measures, which will include the elimination of programs and the furlough of 30 to 40 professional employees. You know say what you want about wva. Really don't care. I will say this seniors down there are exempt on home taxes I do believe it's the first 100k. So go figure. The state also reduced over all tax on grocerys and clothes down to less than 2%. Hmmm so for a bunch of backwoods hillbillies who tap the maple trees I think we may be a little smarter!
