Two boy swimmers captured first place at the WPIAL championship.
Upper St. Clair High School is sending nine boys and nine girls to the PIAA swim meet Thursday, according to athletic director Matthew Mellinger. The 18 students qualified for the state competition following a strong showing in the WPIAL championship. Two boys finished in first place. Ryan Dudzinski won both the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Alex Hardwick captured the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle. Dudzinski and Hardwick's wins helped push the boys' swim team to second place in the WPIAL championship. The girls' team also swam away with an impressive finish—coming in third place.

The latest news from the Upper St. Clair School Board.
If a student's class is not offered at Upper St. Clair High School, he or she may soon be able to attend the class at a neighboring high school. Six local superintendents are working on putting together the Regional Opportunity Initiative. If enrollment is low for a certain class, the school district can offer the class for students in other districts to attend. Superintendent Patrick O'Toole said this might be particularly helpful for fourth or fifth-level foreign language classes. AP classes would also be part of the program. The school districts participating in discussions are Mt. Lebanon, South Fayette, Chartiers Valley, Quaker Valley and West Allegheny. "I think this is a really positive development," O'Toole said, especially at …

The Upper St. Clair High School girls and boys swim teams both accomplished many things this year in their AAA division. One was the hunt for first place in the WPIAL early March and the second was an exceptional, formidable showing at the PIAA meet later that month. The girls' team took the section title this year in regular season play, while the boys' team placed second. Both teams ended their respective seasons with 8-2 records overall. On the heels of achieving a thrilling WPIAL win last year, the boys' team still performed well with a WPIAL runner-up finish, out of 23 scoring teams. The girls' team placed third in the WPIAL out of 26 scoring teams, after having placed dead last three years ago. Natalie Johnsen took first place in …
