Superintendent Explains Decision to Delay School This Week
The Upper St. Clair School District ran on a two-hour delay Tuesday and Wednesday.
Upper St. Clair Superintendent Patrick O'Toole ordered a two-hour delay on Tuesday and Wednesday this week because of the wind chill factor. Some Patch readers questioned whether the temperature would increase much in a two-hour span. "The temperature usually rises after sunrise. There is greater safety in general in daylight. We sometimes need more time to get all the buses started when there are extended periods of cold weather," O'Toole responded. The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a wind chill advisory for Upper St. Clair on Tuesday and Wednesday. O'Toole said the administrators try to make the decision to delay or cancel school the night before when possible to parents can "arrange child care." I have always thought the parents should care for their child and not farm that responsibility out to someone else! more ›
