The Pennsylvania primary is May 21.
One newcomer and two imcumbents have filed to run for the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners. Newcomer Republican Rex Waller is the only candidate filed to run for the open Ward 2 seat currently held by Donald Rectenwald. Commissioner of Ward 4 Mark D. Christie, a Republican, and Commissioner at Large Daniel R. Paoly, a Republican, are the only candidates who filed for their respective seats. The primary is May 21.

The athletes received proclamations.

An agenda will be finalized Friday afternoon.
The Budget and Finance Committee of the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners will meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 at the municipal building. The committee might discuss a possible rate increase for members of the Community and Recreation Center, among other 2013 budget topics, although an agenda has not been finalized. The Parks and Recreation Committee will meet at a later date to decide if they will recommend to the commissioners a rate increase for C&RC members, according to township Manager Matthew Serakowski. The Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21. The meeting will take place in the commissioners' meeting room in the municipal building. The purpose of the meeting is to interview candidates for the Ward 2 commissioner vacancy. Mark Hamilton resigned from the position earlier this month after changing his primary residence to Ligonier. The candidate chosen to fill the position will serve until the term expires at the end of December 2013.

Nick Seitanakis begins his very first term as Upper St. Clair commissioner. Bob Orchowski will serve another year as president and Russell Del Re will serve as vice president.
The newly elected Upper St. Clair commissioners were sworn into office by district Judge Robert Wyda on Monday night. Commissioners Bob Orchowski, Glenn Dandoy and Russell Del Re were re-elected in the Nov. 8, 2011 election. Nick Seitanakis was elected for the first time. He replaces Preston Shimer, who did not run for another term. The board reappointed Orchowski as president for 2012. In another unanimous decision, the board appointed Del Re as vice president. The public was notified of Commissioner Mark Hamilton's resignation on Monday night.
