Congressional lines were redrawn in January.
U.S. congressmen and women are elected to public office by residents of the districts that they represent. But those districts' shapes and residents can change, as they did on Jan. 3, this year, in accordance with shifting demographics. The U.S. House's District 18 of Pennsylvania, for example, which is represented by Republican Tim Murphy, once included all or parts of several municipalities that it no longer encompasses. Baldwin Borough, Baldwin Township, Brentwood Borough, Crafton Borough, Dormont Borough, Green Tree Borough and Wilkins Township are examples of those. But each of those municipalities are now part of Democrat Mike Doyle's 14th District, meaning that some residents are being represented by a member of an entirely …

According to a study by The Washington Times, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) is the fifth worst boss on Capitol Hill. The Washington Times analyzed a decade of congressional pay records to find the offices with the highest turnover rates and it found that Murphy has a 42 percent average turnover rate, peaking at 64 percent in 2006. U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) has been appointed as the chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representatives' Energy & Commerce Committee. "I'm honored to serve as Subcommittee Chairman under the skilled and accomplished leadership of Chairman Fred Upton," said Rep. Murphy, a Republican whose 18th Congressional District includes all of Upper St. Clair Township, in a news release. "The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee serves a critical role in conducting investigations and in federal government oversight. "I join Chairman Upton in extending my sincere appreciation to Congressman Cliff Stearns for his exceptional leadership of this panel during the 112th Congress, and I look …

Constituents from Congressman Tim Murphy's district—mainly local moms—protest a budget they say could only hurt parents and children.
If you saw a crowd gathered outside Congressman Tim Murphy's Mt. Lebanon office on Wednesday afternoon, you were witness to a protest against a budget some say is unfair. Members of the organization PA Working Families, as well as other constituents from Murphy's district, gathered outside his office to protest the Republican 2012 Budget proposal, which they believe to be unfair to mothers and children in particular. The budget was proposed by the office of Republican Representative Paul Ryan. The budget calls for cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, government spending and repealing 2010 health care legislation. Chants of "How much is enough? How much is fair?" rang out over Washington Road on Wednesday. Julie Blust of PA Working Families, who …

Here's what you need to know about the Washington County Democrat.
Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi is running for the Democratic nomination in Pennsylvania’s 18th U.S. Congressional District. He is unopposed. The seat is now held by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) who is being challenged in the Republican primary by political newcomer Evan Feinberg. “I’m running for Congress because southwestern Pennsylvanians deserve a representative who will put the people of the 18th District ahead of partisan politics,” Maggi said when he announced his campaign. "For too long, too many politicians have put their political careers ahead of the interests of their constituents. As a father and a veteran, I have spent my career finding practical solutions to real world problems, and I intend on bringing …
U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy is facing challenger Evan Feinberg, a new resident of Upper St. Clair, in the Republican primary on April 24.
U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) is seeking his sixth term as representative of the 18th Congressional District. Murphy has lived in Upper St. Clair for more than 30 years with his wife and daughter. They attend St. Thomas More Church in Bethel Park. Evan Feinberg, a Peters Township High School graduate who recently moved to Upper St. Clair with his wife and infant son, is challenging Murphy in the Republican primary on April 24. It's Murphy's first primary challenger since going into Congress in 2002. Next Tuesday's top vote-getter will face Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi, who is running as a Democrat, in the November general election. Murphy took the time to answer some questions we thought were important to Patch …

The Peters Township native will face five-term incumbent Rep. Tim Murphy on April 24.
A Peters Township High School graduate will face 10-year incumbent Rep. Tim Murphy in the Pennsylvania spring primary on April 24. Although it's his first campaign, he's not new to politics. Evan Feinberg, 28, of Upper St. Clair, moved to Washington D.C. after college to work with the Heritage Foundation. He served as Sen. Tom Coburn's (R-OK) legislative assistant for Health Policy and, in 2010, took the position of top policy aide in Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) office. Feinberg is facing off in the Republican primary against U.S. Rep Tim Murphy in the 18th congressional district. The winner will then face Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi, who is running as a Democrat, in the November general election. Feinberg took some time to …

Political newcomer and Peters Township native Evan Feinberg will face 10-year incumbent U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy in the spring primary.
Evan Feinberg, 27, said he fights for limited government, freedom and prosperity. A Peters native, he sat down with Patch at Farmhouse Coffee to discuss his campaign against U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair. Patch: Why are you running? Evan Feinberg: Our country is at a crossroads with $15 trillion in debt, soon to be adding $7 trillion. We're facing bankruptcy. The problem is career politicians who put their career before the country. Rep. Tim Murphy is one of the worst offenders. Since he's been in office, our government has doubled in size. He votes again and again for more and more government. He's bad on spending, jobs and works with big labor unions. He's part of the problem—somebody else can be the solution. Patch: Take us up…
