A Mt. Lebanon woman was arrested last month after police said she tried to steal $1,200 worth of merchandise from four stores in Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park. Lisa Anne Chambers, 52, faces several charges of retail theft and was held for court on two of the counts when she failed to show up for her Monday afternoon preliminary hearing with District Judge Robert Wyda. Police from Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair said they were alerted on March 19 to a woman who ran from Kohl’s carrying more than $700 items. Police said she dropped a blender and knife set in the lobby as she ran from the store, but still had various fragrances in her purse. A Bethel Park man is going to trial on charges that he stole more that $70,000 in funds from a company that manages several gas stations in the area. David M. Ohler waived to court two theft charges after Upper St. Clair police arrested him on March 22. Investigators said Ohler, 36, was a manager for Ivan LLC on Boyce Road and was engaged in a long-term scheme to “skim off” profits from the top. Police said he stole $70,459 from the company while floating money between the gas stations. Company officials found the discrepancy in their accounts and confronted him recently, police said. A man accused of stealing $1,200 worth of jewelry from an Upper St. Clair Township home earlier this year will have his theft charge reduced if he makes restitution to the resident. David M. Christman, 31, of Brentwood, was charged with theft after Upper St. Clair police said he stole the jewelry from the Hastings Mill Road home when a friend let him into the house while she was babysitting on Jan. 14. Police said he sold the jewelry to Jerry’s Route 51 Quick Cash on Jan. 14 and 15 for $900. The resident said she realized the theft on Jan. 18 and reported it to police after going to the Quick Cash store in Brentwood and seeing her own jewelry there. Pittsburgh Police arrested Jason Hoffman, 33, of Mt. Washington, on Monday as he sat in the Allegheny County Jail because of a burglary charge he faces in Upper St. Clair. Pittsburgh police charged Hoffman with six burglaries in Mt. Washington. Upper St. Clair police arrested Hoffman for burglary on Feb. 27. Inside Hoffman's vehicle, Upper St. Clair police found numerous items they believed to be stolen outside of Upper St. Clair, including a Giant Eagle Advantage Card and a Duquesne University class ring, according to a Pittsburgh police press release. Steven Kowalski was sentenced to prison after stealing $150,000 worth of items from the retirement home residents in 2011.
The Providence Point security guard accused of stealing $150,000 worth of items from residents in 2011 pleaded guilty last week. Steven Kowalski, 49, of Baldwin, pleaded guilty on Feb. 28 to 16 counts of felony burglary charges and nine charges of receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to 3-to-6 years in prison and faces another 10 years of probation. Kowalski was accused of burglarizing numerous apartments in the Scott Township retirement home and taking jewelry, fine silverware and plate settings. The thefts began in late October 2011 and ramped up in early December when residents reported seven thefts in 10 days. An Upper St. Clair man is headed to trial on DUI charges. An Upper St. Clair police officer reported in a criminal complaint filed with district Judge Robert Wyda's office that he pulled over Robert R. Gostic, 39, for speeding in November. The officer was performing traffic enforcement near the Marosz Station on Washington Road. The officer stated he smelled alcohol on Gostic's breath. Gostic told the officer he drank at the Pittsburgh Steelers game and failed a field sobriety test, according to the complaint. Gostic's blood alcohol content was measured at .154 percent. In Pennsylvania, the legal blood alcohol content is .08 percent. Gostic is also facing charges for having a suspended and expired driver's license and speeding. The officer…

Upper St. Clair police accuse a Crafton woman of making $3,100 of unauthorized charges on a 73-year-old stroke victim's credit card. Jennifer S. Mrozek, 28, is charged with one count of forgery and one count of access device fraud. According to the criminal complaint, Mrozek befriended the Upper St. Clair man as he was trying to assist her with some personal issues. The man allegedly let Mrozek use the credit card to purchase cigarettes and ice cream. She then returned the card, but it later went missing from the victim's wallet, according to the complaint. When it reappeared, the man's statement allegedly showed $3,100 in charges. Mrozek's preliminary hearing in front of district Judge Robert Wyda on Monday was continued for 30 days. …

The man is accused of threatening a Sunoco clerk with a gun.
Bethel Park police say they nabbed the man who tried to rob the Sunoco on Route 19 at gunpoint right before Thanksgiving. The detective on the case also believes the suspect is connected to the Subway robbery in Castle Shannon, along with robberies in Coraopolis, Bellevue and Ben Avon. At this time, Dean Pletz, 44, of Bethel Park, is charged with one count of robbery and one count of persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms. The Allegheny County District Attorney's office is expected to file more charges against Pletz. An Upper St. Clair man was cited after allegedly stealing a Pittsburgh Steelers helmet from Castaway’s Bar in Bridgeville last month. Bridgeville police said they received a call from a Castaway’s employee around 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 that the decorative helmet was stolen from a shelf behind the bar. Police said their investigation led them to 22-year-old Matthew Wholey. Wholey was not taken into custody, but officers cited him for disorderly conduct and trespassing. Investigators said they recovered the helmet from Wholey’s house and returned it to the bar’s owner.
