State Soccer Champs Receive More Recognition

Players gathered at the high school this week.

The Upper St. Clair School Board and district administrators honored the high school's boys' soccer team on Monday night. The team won the PIAA championship in November. "We couldn't win the section, couldn't win WPIALs, so we thought we might as well win the state championship," joked head coach Uwe Schneider, a German teacher at Boyce Middle School. The Panthers beat Wilson High School 1-0, after losing in the state championship game last year. "They played the best game of the season and these guys really deserved to be state champs," said Schneider, who is now the coach of three state championship team. The team reflects on their successful season.

The Upper St. Clair High School boys varsity soccer team is pleased with their season, despite falling to Conestoga in the PIAA Class AAA championship, 1-0, over the weekend. "I told my guys Saturday night that this was just a great season," head coach Uwe Schneider said. "Not winning the state championship doesn't take away the great season. This team is one of the top four or five teams in the history of Upper St. Clair." "I really enjoyed every moment I had with the team," said senior Jesse Poljak, one of the team's captains. "It was an amazing year. From the beginning we never thought we'd make it to the state championship, let alone win WPIAL." The only goal of the game was scored by Conestoga early in the second half. The coach …

A Night Out with Upper St. Clair Hockey

State championship varsity team takes center stage at annual banquet.

It was an evening of celebration, reflection and farewells Tuesday night as the Upper St. Clair Hockey Association hosted its annual end of the year banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn at Southpointe. Kurt Kharouf, the "voice of the Panthers" from the television broadcasts on channel 7, was the master of ceremonies for the event. "It's amazing how I keep coming back to these," Kharouf said, tongue-in-cheek. "I haven't been a parent of this organization since 2004, yet I'm still here. But when you meet the parents and the coaches here, you find out why you stay around." The coaching staffs of the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams each introduced their members, gave remarks on the past season and presented year-end awards.  The six …
