Former Piccolina's Employee Opens Restaurant

Slate Bistro is in the former Cafe Georgio location on Donati Road.

Former Piccolina's employee Dave Sgro now co-owns a brand new restaurant in the area. Slate Bistro opened in August—replacing Cafe Georgio on Donati Road in Bethel Park. After cooking Italian for most of his life, Sgro said he was ready to be more adventurous. "I've always had an interest in world cuisine," he said. "We want to use our imaginations as much as possible." Steaks, chops, seafood, ravioli and gnocchi—the menu caters to everyone. "It's all hand cut and freshly made," Sgro said. Sgro is currently working with co-owner Cheryl Tacka on October's menu, which will focus on fall foods like root vegetables and squashes.
