Brandon Thomas is accused of shooting and killing another man in a grocery store parking lot.
An Upper St. Clair man was formally arraigned last week on homicide charges, according to The Almanac. Brandon Thomas is charged with shooting and killing Vaughn Simonelli, of Washington, PA, in the parking lot of the Washington Shop 'N Save in October 2012. Thomas' attorney has claimed that there was a road rage incident before the confrontation and that his client used self defense. The Almanac reports that the district attorney is not seeking the death penalty against Thomas. Thomas remains in the Washington County Jail.

An Upper St. Clair father of three was held for trial Wednesday on criminal homicide and possession of drug paraphernalia charges. Brandon Thomas, 30, is accused of fatally shooting Vaughn Simonelli, 55, of Chartiers Township, in the Shop 'n Save parking lot in the City of Washington on Oct. 18 after an apparent road rage incident. Prosecution added the possession of drug paraphernalia charge to the case on Wednesday. Washington County Assistant District Attorney Mike Lucas said that when Thomas was being searched at the Washington County Jail, several empty heroin stamp bags fell from his socks. City of Washington Police charged an Upper St. Clair man with a single count of homicide stemming from the shooting death Thursday of a 55-year-old Washington man in a grocery store parking lot. The Observer-Reporter newspaper indicated that Brandon Daniel Thomas, 30, is accused of fatally shooting Vaughn A. Simonelli. Online court records show that Thomas was arraigned at 4 a.m. Friday before district Judge Mark Wilson and remanded to the Washington County Jail after being denied bail, according to online court records. Giant Eagle and Shop 'n Save have pulled products and alerted customers due to a salmonella outbreak that has sickened more than 70 people, including four in Allegheny County.
Grocery retailers in western Pennsylvania are among those pulling Cargill ground turkey products from their shelves and reaching out to customers to prevent more outbreaks of illnesses linked to salmonella. Cargill Value Added Meats Retail, a division of Cargill Meats Solutions Corp., on Wednesday voluntarily recalled approximately 36 million pounds of fresh and frozen ground turkey produced at the company’s Springdale, ARK, facility between Feb. 20 and Tuesday, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
