Sarris Candies Back in Full Production One Year After Fire

One year ago today, crews responded to a structure fire at the local shop.

Following a fire one year ago today—Feb 3, 2012—at the Sarris Candies plant in Canonsburg, company President Bill Sarris announced that all is well and that the company is back in full production in preparation for the early Easter holiday. “We got through last Easter with a limited amount of items available due to the fire," Athena Sarris, chief executive officer, said. "We lost a lot of chocolate molds and weren’t able to provide the selection we’ve had in years past." That won't be a problem this year, though. "But this season, we’ll have a huge selection of new bunnies and novelties to fill everyone’s baskets,” she continued. Sarris Chocolate Castle and Wall Murals Are True Works of Art

Local artists and designers add to the flair of the Sarris Candies Store & Ice Cream Parlour.

George Livanos, in his blessing during the grand reopening dedication on Friday at Canonsburg's most well-known business, “Sarris Candies is about putting smiles on children’s faces—young and old alike.” And that they did. A new-and-improved version of the beloved chocolate castle and icon of Sarris Candies was revealed Friday and drew gasps from the audience of local officials, friends of the Sarris family and the media. Standing 12 feet high, 8 feet long, and 3 feet deep, the 2,600-pound chocolate and candy castle is something to rival Cinderella’s palace. It is hand-sculpted with a variety of textures and adorned with plenty of candy confections, as well as white chocolate animals, placed throughout the edible …

Sarris Ice Cream Parlour Celebrates Grand Reopening

The Sarris family was honored by Canonsburg, Washington County and state officials Friday, and the celebration continues through the weekend.

After a fire on Feb. 3 damaged a portion of the Sarris Candies factory on Adams Avenue, the beloved ice cream parlour remained closed. Until this morning. With a full blessing, ribbon cutting and dedications from many local, county and state officials, the iconic Sarris ice cream parlour is back in business and better than ever. It has the same old-fashioned feel, the same great flavors and the same dedication and family values behind it that the Sarris family has come to be known for in the local and surrounding areas. “Many of you ran with boots on feet, buckets in hand to say, ‘What can we do?’ It wasn’t to save chocolate or to save castles, it was to stand by a family who has stood by you for so many decades,” said Rev. George Livanos …
