The South Hills Interfaith Ministries organized a large holiday gift drive for struggling families in the Pittsburgh area. SHIM enlisted the support of local schools, congregations, business and residents to give thousands of donated gifts for area families. The group offered gifts for both adults and children to “shop” for during the holidays. Volunteers from area high schools helped the children wrap the gifts to exchange with their parents at a later time. “Gleeful secrecy is the mood of the day as families leave with their gifts,” said Kate Snyder of SHIM. SHIM also posted a video on YouTube so families could tell others what the program means to them. Click the photo tab above to view the video. Follow us on Twitter | Like us on …

South Hills Interfaith Ministries is currently running an emergency fall food drive to help restock its seriously-depleted food pantry shelves. The human services nonprofit based in Bethel Park did not receive the amount of food donations it normally does in the summer. "We found ourselves scrambling for food," said Kate Snyder, community relations manager. Snyder does not know if the summer food shortage was caused by South Hills residents having a particularly busy summer, or if residents are feeling the economic pinch.
