The chilly, damp weather Saturday didn't deter the crowd at Upper St. Clair's annual Easter Egg Hunt. In fact, the children didn't even seem to notice! The morning began with face painting, planting, arts and crafts, and photos with the Easter Bunny. At 11 a.m., kids gathered around their designated age areas. And when the whistle blew, the 4,500 eggs were gone within minutes. Inside the eggs, children found candy or a number coordinating with a prize. The largest prize was a huge, stuffed bunny. “We’ve never had to charge a fee and hopefully we never will,” said Milt Hammel, member of the Bethel-St. Clair Rotary Club. The Rotary Club of Upper St. Clair-Bethel Park (Breakfast) started off the new year with a new home—at Kings Family Restaurant on McMurray Road. “We have enjoyed a 20 percent growth in our membership in the past six months and show no signs of stopping. In most respects this is a good, but the sudden growth had caused parking and overcrowding issues at our previous location," President Brian Schill stated. “Kings store manager, Carla Newbegin, has been very accommodating in every aspect." The Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair has two new members. Upper St. Clair School District's Superintendent Patrick O'Toole and Upper St. Clair Township Manager Matthew Serakowski were inducted into the local service club last week. O'Toole and Serakowski were granted corporate executive memberships, which is part of a new Rotary International program that provides opportunities for institutions or corporations to participate in Rotary. The initiation fee is $100 for the corporate membership and the dues are $60 per quarter. The Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair meets at 6 p.m. at St. Clair Country Club each Thursday. The Rotary Club of Bethel-St. Clair is searching for residents interested in taking part in the foundation’s vocational exchange between Seoul, Korea and southwestern PA on May 11 through June 11, 2012. What Is Group Study Exchange? The Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural and vocational exchange opportunity for young business and professional men and women in their initial years of professional life. Rotary districts in different countries are paired to send and receive professional study groups of four to six non-Rotarian team members and one Rotarian team leader to travel for four to six weeks, staying in the homes of Rotarians when possible. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International has two scholarships available for juniors in college. One is an academic year of study abroad, termed an ambassadorial scholarship. The value is in excess of $26,000. The other scholarship is a two-year extensive study in peace and conflict resolution—valued in excess of $65,000—at one of the Rotary Centers Universities: International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan; Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina; University of Bradford in West Yorkshire, England; University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia; or Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. Rotarian Brad Harrison was inducted into the Rotary Club of Upper St Clair-Bethel Park on July 5. Harrison is a former naval submarine officer and has served in a variety of national defense and public policy capacities in government and the private sector since 1998. He is currently the district director for the office of Congressman Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, in Mt. Lebanon where he focuses on serving more than 600,000 citizens of Southwestern Pennsylvania on behalf of U.S. Rep. Murphy. Harrison holds a B.S. in political science from the United States Naval Academy and an M.S. in engineering management from the Catholic University of America. He volunteers as chairman of the U.S. Naval Academy class of 2002 fundraising committee. …

The Rotary Club of Upper St. Clair - Bethel Park has a new member. Rob Robison was inducted on June 7. Robison has more than 15 years of experience in financial services. He is currently with www.my401krescue.com—an educational website that teaches 401k participants how to manage their mutual funds. Robison and his wife, Patty, have been married for 31 years and are 20-year residents of Upper St. Clair. They have two grown daughters, Jenn and Katie, and a goldendoodle therapy dog, Lacey. Robison travels with Lacey to provide comfort to people in hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes and schools.
