Last month, the Mt. Lebanon Veterans Memorial was unveiled to the public during a formal dedication featuring keynote speaker Rocky Bleier, the project's architects, veterans, local officials, committee members, Duquesne Light executives, Mt. The casino issued a statement saying it had severed its relationship with the former Steeler after remarks he made about former Penn State coach Joe Paterno.
Former Steeler Franco Harris has been cut from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino team. News of the severed relationship between the North Strabane venue and one of its celebrity spokesman came in the wake of comments he made regarding former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno. Media outlets are reporting that Harris told CNN that he thinks the university should reinstate the coach, who was fired after a former assistant and others were charged in a child-sex abuse investigation. Harris attended and played football at Penn State. Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier were announced as celebrity spokesmen for The Meadows Racetrack & Casino.
Former Steelers teammates and four-time Super Bowl Champions Franco Harris and Rocky Bleier have joined The Meadows Racetrack & Casino to help with philanthropy and advertising efforts. The Second Annual Black & Gold Celebrity Golf Classic, co-hosted by the Meadows Racetrack & Casino and Pittsburgh Steelers Rocky Bleier and Mike Merriweather generated $3,500 for World War II Veterans of Southwestern Pennsylvania Memorial Fund, Inc. The event, held September 19 at the Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg, also included several former Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins. The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is teaming up with dozens of athletes and celebrities for the second annual Black & Gold Celebrity Golf Classic Monday. Officials from The Meadows Racetrack & Casino have announced that the venue will host a tailgate party on the racetrack—allowing fans to watch on the Jumbotron as the Steelers take on the Ravens Sunday. Fans can join Steelers greats Rocky Bleier, Louie Lipps, Mike Merriweather and Robin Colefor the event, and enter for chances to win Pittsburgh Steelers tickets and other prizes every quarter. Admission is free and The Meadows will also offer $2 tailgate food and beer specials. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Flight 93 Memorial Fund, according to a release.
