Plans to Cut Saturday Mail Service Delayed

Congress isn't allowing the change.

The U.S. Postal Service's plan to cut Saturday mail service is delayed, including the United States Post Office of Upper St. Clair. The Board of Governors of the agency stated that Congress passed a spending bill that continues to prohibit the reduction of delivery days. "Although disappointed with this Congressional action, the board will follow the law and has directed the Postal Service to delay implementation of its new delivery schedule," the board stated. Saturday mail service was set to be cut on Aug. 5.

Postage Prices to Rise

Snail mail will get a little more expensive in 2012.

Beginning early next year, it will cost a penny more to mail letters in the United States. The new 45-cent price is the first price change for first-class mail stamps in more than two and a half years. Other changes, effective Jan. 22, 2012, include: Prices also will change for other mailing services, including standard mail, periodicals, package services and extra services. Prices for express mail and priority mail are not affected.
