The store is opening in a new location after closing its former Upper St. Clair location in the spring.
A new Pier 1 Imports store is scheduled to open its doors in Upper St. Clair on Monday, Oct. 31. The store is located in the top level of the former Border's Bookstore. It's in the same complex as Louis Anthony Jewelers and The Pie Place. Pier 1 Imports was previously located at 1630 Washington Road, next to the Chick-fil-A. Trader Joe's now occupies that space. "Following the closing of our previous location, we knew we wanted to maintain our presence in the South Hills," said Jennifer Engstrand, Pier 1 Imports media specialist, in an email to Upper St. Clair Patch. Trader Joe's, a unique, neighborhood grocery store with foods and beverages from the exotic to the basic, will celebrate the grand opening of a new store located in Upper St. Clair on Friday, Nov. 4 at 8 a.m. To commemorate the official opening Trader Joe’s Captain (store manager) Jennifer Sourbeck, Regional Vice President Rich Millis and the crew will gather for a ceremonial lei cutting to welcome new customers—"Trader Joe’s style." The celebration will continue throughout the day with live music, food demonstrations and stickers for the kids. Second public hearing scheduled for Jan. 3
Trader Joe's could be taking over the space of the current Pier 1 Imports on Washington Road, but there are still many hurdles before the change can happen. One concern residents have is the traffic the store would cause along the already congested Washington Road. Representatives from Trader Joe's will be presenting their traffic study findings to the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 3. The township's traffic engineer will review the study. Homeowners are also worried about the noise the store's delivery trucks would create. Trader Joe's officials are requesting the township allow deliveries between the hours of 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Currently, the township only allows deliveries from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. "The township already receives …
