Photos: Upper St. Clair Parade

Pounds of candy were tossed to anxious kids during the township's annual parade.

Crowds of families with sugar-hungry children lined McLaughlin Run Road Saturday for the Upper St. Clair Community Day Parade. The fun began at 11:30 a.m., with the Upper St. Clair Police Department leading the way. The parade's grand marshal, Superintendent of the Year Patrick O'Toole, and the Upper St. Clair High School marching band followed. Participants—ranging from government officials to Boy Scouts to cheerleaders—tossed candy into the audience. The chocolate candy was a bit messy with temperatures in the 80s, but no kids seemed to mind. Some of the parade floats were decorated to this year's theme—"Panthers in Paradise." Just like every year, a long line of shiny, red Upper St. Clair fire trucks signaled the end of the parade. We …

Today is Community Day and again this year, Mother Nature is on its side. It will be sunny, with a high near 84, according to the National Weather Service in Moon Township. A nice weather trend organizers say they have seen since switching the event to the third Saturday of May instead of the second. 7:45-8:30 a.m. Run for Fun Registration Registration will be held in the Upper St. Clair High School parking lot. Cost is $10. 9 a.m. Run for Fun The 3.1-mile, moderately hilly course starts and finishes at Panther Stadium. Community Day Parade Marches Through Upper St. Clair

Grand marshal was former MLB player and Upper St. Clair resident Sean Casey.

The Community Day Parade marched down McLaughlin Run Road on Saturday without a glitch. Former MLB player and Upper St. Clair resident Sean Casey was the parade's grand marshal. Casey and his wife, Mandi, have been working hard for months to raise money to build a Miracle Field in Upper St. Clair. "I've been coming to Community Day my whole life and it was cool to be the grand marshal," said Casey. "Usually I'm on the side catching candy." The beautiful weather attracted hundreds of onlookers. "The weather's great. The parade's great. It's just great to see all of your neighbors, see the kids grow up and meet a lot of new people," said Adam Lumish, an Upper St. Clair resident.
