An Upper St. Clair restaurant makes the list using trans-fat free cooking oils.
The Allegheny County Health Department reports nine new food establishments opened in the county in January, including one in Upper St. Clair. There were eight restaurants and a confectionary. “The health department’s monthly reports identify which new restaurants use trans-fat free cooking oils, and five out of the eight eateries opening last month cook with these healthier oils,” said Acting County Health Director Dr. Ron Voorhees. The new restaurant opened on Monday.
There is a new Chipotle Mexican Grill open for business in Upper St. Clair. The first day of business was Monday, Jan. 22. The restuarant joins Norman Centre on Washington Road in the former Pearl Vision store. In September, commissioners approved the addition of 22 more parking spots to accomodate the restaurant. Bonefish Grill officially opens in Upper St. Clair today. The restaurant—next to South Hills Village—specializes in market fresh fish cooked over a wood-burning grill. You may have seen the restaurant's parking lot packed this weekend. Friday was Friends and Family Night and Saturday was Charity Night. The address is 1835 Washington Rd. and the hours are Monday through Thursday, 4 to 10:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 4 to 11:30 p.m.; and Sunday 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. The phone number is 412-835-3239. Upper St. Clair commissioners approved the construction of the restaurant in May and an outdoor dining area in October. The restaurant employs about 100 people. Aladdin's Eatery is opening another location on Route 19.
Aladdin’s Eatery will be opening in McMurray soon. The Lebanese/American restaurant chain is moving into the former Penny’s Diner location along Route 19. A large banner across the storefront announces that the new restaurant is “Coming Soon!” Aladdin’s full menu is also posted on the door for customers to view before it opens. The restaurant could be opening as soon as February, although company officials did not return phone message seeking comment on the expansion. Officials at Walnut Capital, which manages the storefronts across from Kmart, could not comment on when the restaurant will open. The new restaurant will be constructed behind the existing building.
Upper St. Clair commissioners unanimously approved the construction of a new Ardolino's Pizza restaurant behind the existing building. The restaurant will sit along Maple Lane, off of Boyce Road, which is currently a private, gravel road. The Ardolinos will pay to have the road paved and upgraded. The new restaurant will have an outdoor dining patio that will seat about 30 people. Commissioners gave approval for service on the patio until 11 p.m. They allow for Stonepepper's Grill to do the same on its outdoor dining patio. The current Ardolino's Pizza restaurant will remain open until construction is fully complete. Rumfish and Mike and Tony's Gyros are opening soon.
Two new restaurants will be opening up this year in the Great Southern Shopping Center. Construction is moving forward on Rumfish, a restaurant that apparently will be owned by the same people who operate Coconuts in the Pittsburgh area, in the corner of the shopping center next to Tuesday Mornings. The other restaurant, Mike and Tony’s Gyros, which already has an eatery located in the South Side, will be on the other side of the shopping center closer to Texas Roadhouse. Tom Plietz, who is Collier Township’s code enforcement officer, said the restaurant has been on Carson Street for “many years” and the owners are trying to expand their business. “That have pretty good gyros, actually,” Plietz said. The new Mexican restaurant will open nearby later this spring.
A new Chipotle restaurant is opening later this spring in Scott Township. The Mexican chain restaurant is expected to open its new location at the former Calico Corners location on Cochran Road in May. Scott Township officials said the restaurant construction is scheduled to be finished by the end of May, but workers there expect it to be finished before then. The signage has been installed, but extensive work still needs to be done to the interior of the building. Crews this week were still working hard inside hanging light fixtures, installing plumbing and building major parts of the dining room. Upper St. Clair commissioners approved the transfer of a liquor license to Ardolino's Pizza on Boyce Road. The vote was 7-0 on Monday night. Rodney Ardolino, owner of the Upper St. Clair Italian eatery, plans on selling beer and possibly some liquor. Customers will be able to purchase alcohol while eating in the restaurant. Six-packs will also be available for purchase. No alcohol will be delivered. Ardolino must receive final approval from the Liquor Control Board, which may take an estimated six to eight weeks.
