National Pie Day: Frozen Chocolate Mousse Pie Recipe

In honor of National Pie Day, here are two great pie recipes.

Monday, Jan. 23 is National Pie Day. Created by the American Pie Council, National Pie Day is dedicated to the celebration of pie. The American Pie Council is encouraging pie lovers across the nation to throw a pie party to pass on the love and enjoyment of pie eating and pie making. In honor of the day, I'm providing the recipe to my favorite pie recipe, courtesy of Paula Deen. Since the famous butter-loving chef recently announced she has diabetes, I also included her son's "healthier" version of the pie below it. Free Pies: Celebrate Random Acts of Pie-ness With The Pie Place

The local bakery will be giving away a free pie to every 10th paying customer.

Monday, Jan. 23 is National Pie Day and Upper St. Clair's The Pie Place is celebrating on Saturday by holding its second annual "Random Acts of Pie-ness." Bakers handed out free pies to every 15th customer during their first annual event last year and are upping the ante this year. The shop will give a free award-winning apple pie to every 10th paying customer 18 years or older from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "The first year was a huge success; it was very busy," said Jessica Gombar, owner of The Pie Place. She hopes for the same amount of popularity on Saturday, despite the snowy and icy weather forecast.
