See if the decision will affect Upper St. Clair.
The revised Pennsylvania legislative reapportionment plan was upheld in state Supreme Court, according to the Tribune Review. All appeals to the plan have been dismissed, which sets legislative boundaries based on the 2010 census shift, according to the report. The plan will go into effect in the 2014 election year. The reapportionment will not affect Upper St. Clair's leadership. State Sen. Matt Smith (D-Mt. Lebanon) of the 37th District will lose the boroughs of Avalon and Ben Avon and gain the boroughs of McDonald (Allegheny County portion), Rosslyn Farms, Pennsbury Village and Thornburg, as well as Robinson Township. Matt Smith introduced himself to the board of commissioners.
New state Sen. Matt Smith (D-Mt. Lebanon) introduced himself to the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners and other community members during the regular meeting on Monday night. "I want to be proactive and offer my services and my staff's services so we can work together to make our community better," Smith said. "You're off to a great start with us. You're out there. We really thank you for that," said Bob Orchowski, president of the board of commissioners. Smith defeated Raja in the November election to take over Sen. John Pippy's seat. Prior to that, Smith was the state House 42nd District representative.

State Sen. Matt Smith is questioning how Gov. Tom Corbett’s administration made the decision to hire a British company to run the Pennsylvania Lottery. The first-term Democratic senator from Mt. Lebanon said a hearing with the Finance Committee helped to shed light on the decision-making process by the administration, but it “does not forgive the actions taken that effectively cut the public and specifically seniors out of the process” to select the private operator. The Corbett administration last week issued a notice of award to Camelot Global Services, a British-based company, to manage the Pennsylvania Lottery. The new state senator serving Upper St. Clair announces appointments to several senate committees.
Pennsylvania Sen. Matt Smith, D-Mt. Lebanon, has been appointed to the state Senate's finance committee. The senator, who earlier this month was sworn into the seat vacated by former Sen. John Pippy, of Moon, was also named to the professional licensure committee; the game and fisheries committee; and the community, economic and recreational development committee. He will also serve as the Democratic chair of the state government committee, according to an announcement from spokeswoman Lauren Hurley. Upper St. Clair residents can meet their new state senator from 5:30 to 7:30 Thursday night at Il Pizziola in Mt. Lebanon. Sen. Matt Smith (D-Mt. Lebanon) was sworn in on New Year's Day following the retirement of John Pippy. PennEnvironment Research and Policy Center is hosting the event "to allow Pittsburgh-area constituents to meet and chat with their newly-elected state senator, and socialize with neighbors and others who are concerned about protecting our environment." Matt Smith’s New Year's Day celebration got off to a good start Tuesday afternoon when he was sworn in as the area’s new state senator. Smith, who previously was a three-term state representative for most of the South Hills, was at the state Capitol in Harrisburg with friends and family for the unusual New Year’s Day swearing-in ceremony.
