The victim spent four days in jail and nine months on house arrest.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Allegheny County police in district Judge Robert Wyda's courtroom, Katelyn Webster, of Venetia, went to the Washington Hospital in June 2012 and reported she was raped by Matthew Folino while sitting in the South Park Wave Pool parking lot. Webster told police Folino placed his hands around her neck and held her down in his vehicle, according to the complaint. Police stated Webster had "noticeable marks on her neck and back." This is absolutely ridiculous!!!! Katelyn Webster should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and be made an example out of. It’s a shame that a person can be put through so much on a simple accusation and some self-inflicted marks. I guess since there was no mention of the rape kit results that it was inconclusive? What a shame. I hope Mr. Folino sues Ms. Webster for whatever she’s …   more ›

Dozens of Local Residents Sued Each Month For Credit Card Debt

Law firms buy the credit card debt and file civil lawsuits.

Upper St. Clair, an affluent Pittsburgh suburb, is not immune to credit card debt. Magisterial District Judge Robert Wyda said he hears up to 10 credit card debt cases a week. He estimates half the people being sued are from Upper St. Clair, even though the township has a smaller population than the other municipality in his jurisdiction—Bethel Park. The plaintiffs are commonly law firms from Philadelphia or New Jersey. "For me the issue is that the plaintiffs usually don't have the evidence to proceed," Wyda said. However, the defendants often don't contest the delinquent debt and will enter into a voluntary agreement to pay off the debt. The best way to avoid the problem is—of course—don't run up your credit card debt. "Civil judgment on…

The key here is found in the following seven words, "don't run up your credit card debt." It should be particularly painful for individuals to pay interest on their credit card debt at the rate of 20% or more per annum at a time that certificates of deposit are returning peanuts. We used to live without credit cards and although this generation would find it impossible to believe, those who …   more ›
