Build a Bear Today for Children's Hospital Patients

For $10.00, you can stop by Build-A-Bear Workshop in South Hills Village to make a bear for a child who is spending Christmas in the hospital.

You're invited to the fourth annual “Hugs for the Holiday” Party at South Hills Village Mall Saturday, Dec. 15. For only $10.00, you can stop by Build-A-Bear Workshop between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. to make a bear for a child who is spending Christmas in the hospital. Last year, “Hugs for the Holiday” donated 250 bears to Children’s Hospital—enough for each bed on Christmas morning, and 200 to all children receiving chemotherapy the week before Christmas. There were even enough bears left over to donate to 56 foster children and a local personal care home. This year, organizers are hoping to double those numbers. Families Invited to Hop Aboard 'The Polar Express' Tonight

The Upper St. Clair High School Interact Club is hosting a holiday party.

The Upper St. Clair High School Interact Club is hosting a holiday party for kids—preschool through elementary—from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 11. The party will be held at the high school in the LGI room across from the theater. Admission is free, but attendees are asked to bring a toy donation for the Washington and Green County Toys for Tots. There will be crafts, games and a viewing of The Polar Express. Hot cocoa, cookies and popcorn will be available. Blankets and pillows are recommended for the movie. Parents are asked to stay for the party. More Than 400 Attend 'Holidays at the CR&C'

The Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center held its second annual holiday event on Saturday.

The Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center reports a great turnout for the second annual "Holidays at the C&RC." More than 400 people attended the event on Saturday. The event featured a visit from Santa Claus, free sweet treats, craft projects and a concert with the Community Band South under the direction of James Bennett and Dean Streator, the 40-member Fort Couch Middle School Chorus, Women's Ensemble under the direction of Tom Hunsberger and the Center for Theater Arts under the direction of Billy Hartung. Extend Life of Christmas Tree with Fire Marshal's Tea Recipe

Mixing a concoction of things that can be found at the corner store will extend the life and luster of fresh firs.

If you're buying a live Christmas tree just this year, the following recipe will extend the life of a live tree, according to a Stow firefighter.  Most Christmas trees are expected to live only a couple of weeks after being cut down. But Stow Fire Department Marshal Jim Leidel has a recipe, he says, that extends the life and luster of the fresh firs. "No fire-proofing technique works 100 percent of the time," said Leidel. Pantheon Choir to Perform Holiday Concert in Pittsburgh

The Upper St. Clair High School Pantheon Choir, and other local high school groups, will perform in the 45th Annual Holiday Choral Program.

Upper St. Clair and several other local high school music groups are scheduled to perform this holiday season in the 45th Annual Holiday Choral Program in Pittsburgh. The Upper St. Clair High School Pantheon Choir will perform Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. on the Grand Staircase of the Allegheny County Courthouse,  at 436 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. The following local high school groups also will perform: Performances will be held each weekday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. through Friday, December 19. Poll: Do your Prefer “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays?”

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? When it comes to season’s greetings, a new poll shows the majority of Americans prefer “Merry Christmas” to “Happy Holidays.” The survey from Rasmussen Reports finds that 68 percent of the people polled prefer the traditional “Merry Christmas” while just 23 percent like "Happy Holidays," which can cover a variety of occasions. It doesn’t end there. When it comes to holiday signs, a whopping 70 percent of shoppers polled said they prefer to be greeted with “Merry Christmas” in stores rather than the more neutral Happy Holidays, according to a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Crafts, a concert and a visit from Mr. Claus will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1.

'Tis the season! Upper St. Clair residents and the surrounding area are invited to celebrate the Holidays at the Community and Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 1. The fun begins wiht free sweet treats and arts and crafts at 11 a.m. Then—rumor has it—Santa Claus will be visiting for an hour starting at 11:30 a.m. (I hope you've been nice). At noon, families can enjoy a free family concert and singalong with the Community Band South under the direction of James Bennett and Dean Streator and the 40-member Fort Couch Middle School Chorus and Women's Ensemble under the direction of Tom Hunsberger.
