More Than 400 Attend 'Holidays at the CR&C'

The Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center held its second annual holiday event on Saturday.

The Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center reports a great turnout for the second annual "Holidays at the C&RC." More than 400 people attended the event on Saturday. The event featured a visit from Santa Claus, free sweet treats, craft projects and a concert with the Community Band South under the direction of James Bennett and Dean Streator, the 40-member Fort Couch Middle School Chorus, Women's Ensemble under the direction of Tom Hunsberger and the Center for Theater Arts under the direction of Billy Hartung. You're Invited: Holidays at the Community and Recreation Center

Crafts, a concert and a visit from Mr. Claus will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1.

'Tis the season! Upper St. Clair residents and the surrounding area are invited to celebrate the Holidays at the Community and Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 1. The fun begins wiht free sweet treats and arts and crafts at 11 a.m. Then—rumor has it—Santa Claus will be visiting for an hour starting at 11:30 a.m. (I hope you've been nice). At noon, families can enjoy a free family concert and singalong with the Community Band South under the direction of James Bennett and Dean Streator and the 40-member Fort Couch Middle School Chorus and Women's Ensemble under the direction of Tom Hunsberger. Ryan McCleaster, assistant director of recreation and leisure services, said with three planned performances, the music should cater to all ages. …

High School Music Department is Not 'Stressed Over the Season'

USCHS music department presents holiday music program 'Stressed Over the Season'

Members of the USCHS Orchestra, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble entertained their audience with a collection of seasonal musical selections on Wednesday night in the high school theater. The Orchestra, directed by Mr. Paul Fox, started off the evening with the Roland Leich arrangement of "Es ist ein'Ros'entsprungen."  This was followed by "Fantasia on 'Greensleeves'" and featured several student soloists:  Masashi Iida, Yudi Chen, Akhil Venkatesh, and Arley Schenker.  Also performed were "Two Holiday Canons," the Hebrew hymn "Miammakem," and Pachabel's "Canon in D Major."  The Orchestra was accompanied by several members of the Fort Couch string section. Five Things to Do This Weekend

It's the last weekend before Christmas and there are many holiday happenings in Upper St. Clair. Here are five things for you and your families to check out. 1. See Santa drive through your neighborhood on a fire engine. He will be handing out treats to children, adults and pets. You can read more about the Upper St. Clair tradition and find the schedule here. 2. Head to the Upper St. Clair Library.  The 'Celebrate the Winter Holidays' program begins on Saturday. Parents can bring their children to the library to make crafts from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. More information is here. 3. Attend the PCO Holiday Concert.
