Celebrate Our Schools Gala Raises $96K

The director of advancement gave board members an update Monday night.

Correction and Update: The Celebrate Our Schools Gala raised $96,000, but only $80,000 for the technology initiatives after expenses were paid for. The second annual Celebrate Our Schools Gala held on Oct. 20 at St. Clair Country Club raised $96,000 for the Upper St. Clair School District, Director of Advancement Liz Hall reported Monday night to the school board members. Even more interesting, I know certain residents who were willing to help fund an entire press-box replacement (as it is badly needed and embarrassing for our school compared to surrounding schools). Yet the district didn't wan't anything to do with it.   more ›

Second Annual Gala Preparations Under Way

The Upper St. Clair School District fundraiser will be held on Oct. 20.

Preparations are under way for the Second Annual "Celebrate Our Schools" Gala on Oct. 20. The Upper St. Clair School District fundraiser is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair All proceeds from the event will benefit technology for the district both in the classrooms and on the field. Money will be used to invest in new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) labs at the high school and purchasing iPads. The funds will also be used to buy a new PA system for Panther Stadium, which some say it desperately needs. Last year the event was held during homecoming weekend. The date was changed because it conflicted with Saturday night's homecoming dance. This year, the 1989 Upper St. Clair High School football team …

Oh now the school board has to fund raise to pay for things? What will they come up with next? This really saddens me. I found a education helped me out of having to follow my family into the mill or mine. Never once has my high school asked me for money. Yet we are allowing elected officials to put on functions like this to beg for money? At what price for a quality education are we subjecting …   more ›
