It's official: These volunteers have tried EVERYTHING to raise funds.
From raffles to mattress sales to recreating a Korean guy's hit music video, the firefighters from the South Baldwin Volunteer Fire Company have made one thing very clear: They are creative. On Wednesday, a group of firemen from Baldwin Borough's southernmost station posted a four-and-a-half-minute-long music video on YouTube to the tune of "Gangnam Style" by Korean rapper Psy. Psy's original video, only on YouTube since July, has turned out to be one of the most popular Internet videos ever, racking up over 400 million hits and counting due in large part to its offbeat dancing and other content. At the end of the South Baldwin video, which appears to have been filmed in the borough itself—there are scenes at Colewood Park, for example—one…

Some of the firefighters who attended were from Bridgeville, Presto, Rennerdale, South Fayette, Fairview, East Carnegie, Bower Hill, Upper St. Clair and Cecil. Two Bridgeville police officers, a Pennsylvania state police trooper, a SouthBridge medic and two Army soldiers accompanied them for the service. A moment of silence was held for the nearly 3,000 victims killed in the…

Firefighters from Bridgeville, Presto, Upper St. Clair and Moon Township just finished a class on how to use a specialized foam for chemical fires.
The parking lot at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department was filled with suds Sunday afternoon as firefighters there took a refresher course on using foam to fight chemical fires. Firefighters from Bridgeville, Presto, Upper St. Clair and Moon Township finished their 16-hour refresher course on the “Class B” foam that is used for chemical fires that typically come from car crashes, train derailments or industrial accidents. The three South Hills departments, including Upper St. Clair, have shared a trailer packed with the foam for several years, and Bridgeville fire Chief Bill Chilleo said it was about time to be recertified. “When you don’t play with something enough, you tend to forget,” he said. Moon also participated because it …

State senator asks fire crews to take time this week to focus entirely on safety, health and wellness-related training.
Hey, firefighters. The state Senate is thinking about YOU this week. The body on Monday unanimously passed a resolution sponsored by Sen. Tim Solobay marking Safety, Health and Survival Week for firefighters in Pennsylvania. “This resolution speaks to those that answer the call when the alarm goes off. For firefighters and emergency services personnel, putting others first is just a way of life,” Solobay, D-Canonsburg, said. “In an age of ‘me first’ and constant self-promotion, competitiveness, and individualism, the selflessness of our firefighters is an uncommon trait.” Safety, Health and Survival Week is a collaborative program sponsored by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and the …
