Do you know how many drinks you can have before you're in danger of getting charged with driving under the influence? This year in our area numerous people have been pulled over while driving drunk. On this day of celebration, Patch wants you to know when enough is enough. When police pull drivers over for suspected drunken driving, officers ask them to perform field sobriety tests and to take a breath test to measure Blood Alcohol Content. A BAC test measures the percentage of alcohol present in a person's bloodstream. Pennsylvania's legal limit is 0.08 percent. A McCandless Township woman was held for court Monday on drunk driving, careless driving and related charges. According to a criminal complaint filed by the Upper St. Clair police, an officer spotted Brittany Renee Bittner, 22, allegedly driving erratically on McLaughlin Run Road on Oct. 29. The officer continued to follow Bittner's vehicle and activated the police cruiser's emergency lights, and that's when Bittner's vehicle ran over two construction cones on Lesnett Road before pulling off the road, according to the complaint. Bittner's blood alcohol content was allegedly .188 percent. The legal level of alcohol in Pennsylvania is .08 percent. The woman is charged with DUI and possession of marijuana.
A West Miffin woman was held for trial Monday on two counts of DUI and other related charges. An Upper St. Clair police officer arrested Janet L. Cooper, 48, of West Mifflin, on Sept. 15 when her vehicle allegedly crossed the center lane on Painters Run Road, according to a criminal complaint filed with district Judge Robert Wyda's office. The officer stated that Cooper's vehicle was driving toward his vehicle when it "abruptly swerved back into its lane of travel." The officer also stated he found a small amount of suspected marijuana in Cooper's possession after he pulled her over. Cooper's next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22. A 21-year-old woman is facing a DUI charge after allegedly tailgating an Upper St. Clair police cruiser on Lesnett Road. Arielle Layne Kraushaar, of Muse, PA, is also charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, driving on the left side of the roadway and driving on roadways laned for traffic. Just before 1 a.m. on Nov. 13, Kraushaar got the attention of an Upper St. Clair police officer when she allegedly tailgated his vehicle and crossed the center line in the SUV she was driving, according to the criminal complaint. The complaint stated that the officer pulled Kraushaar over on McLaughlin Run Road, where she is accused of becoming "combative." A retail theft call leads to a drug arrest, plus other cases before District Judge Robert Wyda.
A Pittsburgh woman was charged with heroin possession after Upper St. Clair police were called to a shoplifting incident at Sears in South Hills Village. Amanda R. Binger, 25, was released on bail with the condition of receiving a drug and alcohol evaluation by Aug. 23, according to court records in the office of District Judge Robert Wyda. On Monday, her preliminary hearing before Wyda was rescheduled for Oct. 20, following crime lab analysis. On Aug. 11, Binger was observed by a Sears security office concealing items of clothing, and when she was approached, she fled the store.
