A man accused of stealing $1,200 worth of jewelry from an Upper St. Clair Township home earlier this year will have his theft charge reduced if he makes restitution to the resident. David M. Christman, 31, of Brentwood, was charged with theft after Upper St. Clair police said he stole the jewelry from the Hastings Mill Road home when a friend let him into the house while she was babysitting on Jan. 14. Police said he sold the jewelry to Jerry’s Route 51 Quick Cash on Jan. 14 and 15 for $900. The resident said she realized the theft on Jan. 18 and reported it to police after going to the Quick Cash store in Brentwood and seeing her own jewelry there. Investigators initially targeted the babysitter, but eventually were led to Christman. …

A South Hills man appeared before District Judge Robert Wyda on Monday facing a retail theft charge and two traffic citations, all the result of a May 28 visit to South Hills Village. James Severino Sr., 42, pleaded guilty to the theft of two saws, valued at $299.98, from Sears, according to court records. He was ordered to pay court costs. He also pleaded guilty to citations issued by Upper St. Clair police, for driving with a suspended license and careless driving, near the mall. Restitution of $1,200 was supposed to be paid to a theft victim by now.
A Pittsburgh man faces incarceration if he fails to pay the full amount of his restitution. District Judge Robert Wyda on Monday told Phillip Berta, 27, of Fieldcrest Drivbe that he most likely will go to jail if he fails to reimburse a theft victim the remaining $700 he owes her. The deadline is Berta’s next hearing before Wyda, scheduled for Sept. 10. According to court records, Berta has paid $500 of the $1,200 Wyda ordered him to pay. On Dec. 8, an Upper St. Clair resident told police some items were missing from her home, and that “several workmen had been present” at the beginning of the month, according to the police criminal complaint. A Monessen man was jailed after failing to pay restitution to an Upper St. Clair couple.
A Monessen man had his bond revoked Monday by District Judge Robert Wyda, who cited failure to pay restitution. Jason Oliver, 25, was charged in November with theft of jewelry and a cellphone from an Upper St. Clair home. In March, he agreed to compensate the victim, but has not paid anything since, Wyda said. According to township police, Oliver and a woman were staying at the home of a couple, watching their children while they were on vacation. A few days after they returned, the wife told police the phone was missing. Oliver then called police to admit he took the phone and also jewelry, which the couple ascertained to be a ring, watch and bracelets valued at $2,700, according to the police report, which also states that Oliver sold …

A Wesley Spectrum Academy student is facing a drug possession charge after police said he was found with three Tylenol with codeine pills at school on Jan. 19. Zachary Michael Scalise, 18, of 70 Noblestown Road, Carnegie, waived his preliminary hearing to court on Monday. According to the criminal complaint filed by Upper St. Clair police, school staff reported Scalise was acting impaired, checked his wallet and discovered the pain pills. Scalise would not tell police how he acquired them. The pills were sent to a crime lab for a positive ID, according to police. A Washington County man charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and careless driving in Upper St. Clair waived his preliminary hearing to court on Monday. Michael S. Taylor, 39, of 963 Sugar Run Rd., Eighty Four, was pulled over on Washington Road by an Upper St. Clair police officer at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2011. The officer stated in a criminal complaint that he saw the driver speeding down Washington Road near the Wagner's St. Clair Mini Mart. The officer started to follow the car, and stated the car was pulling ahead of him as he was driving 80 mph. A West Virginia woman accused of stealing from the CVS in Upper St. Clair is headed to trial. Corrina Holloway, 44, of 67 33rd Street, Wheeling, WV, is charged with two counts of retail theft and one count of criminal conspiracy. A CVS employee testified at Monday's hearing, claiming he saw Holloway stealing on surveillance video two separate times. On July 21, he said the tape showed Holloway and an accomplice taking an Alli pill box from the pharmacy area, then taking the pills out of the box and tossing the box behind toilet paper. On Sept. 4, the employee said he the surveillance camera captured a similar situation—this time he said the Alli box was stashed behind envelopes.
