New Grocery Store Coming to South Fayette

An Aldi's low price grocery store is expected to open in South Fayette near the Bridgeville exit off Interstate 79.

An Aldi’s low price grocery store is expected to open in South Fayette near the Bridgeville exit off Interstate 79. The eight acres of land directly behind the former Exxon gas station is expected to be built into a shopping center called The Crossings at South Fayette with Aldi’s becoming the anchor tenant, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. A bank, restaurant, drive-thru coffee and other businesses also might move into the proposed shopping center, the newspaper reported. The Bridgeville Fuel Stop gas station next to McDonald’s would be demolished to build an entrance to the shopping center that connects to the Route 50 and Washington Pike intersection. Two other entrances would be built on Daniell Drive near the GetGo gas station. …

Tickets cost $20 for the all-day event and can be purchased at the door or by contacting the organizers through the “Help find Jimmy Slack” Facebook page. Small Snowstorm Headed for Upper St. Clair

Meteorologists are tracking a small snowstorm coming into western Pennsylvania that will bring about an inch of snow to the Upper St. Clair area by Wednesday morning.

Meteorologists are tracking a small snowstorm coming into western Pennsylvania that will bring about an inch of snow to the Upper St. Clair area by Wednesday morning. Dennis Sims, a meteorologist at Air Science Consultants in Bridgeville, expects a “wet snow” to move into the South Hills around 10 p.m. Tuesday before it changes over to sleet overnight. “It will for some slippery travel later tonight,” Sims said. Temperatures are expected to hover around 30 degrees overnight before the sleet changes over to rain Wednesday morning. Sims said they expect about an inch of accumulations, which could bring some slippery spots during the morning commute, but “no major problems.” The higher elevations of the Laurel Highlands in Fayette and …

New Bakery Opens Nearby

A couple from Washington recently opened a new bakery shop at the former Cupcakes N’At storefront on Station Street.

A new bakery has moved into the former Cupcakes N’At location in Bridgeville. Zach and Tracy Kuhn opened the Batter & Dough Baking Company earlier this month and are whipping up biscotti, cupcakes, pies, brittles, barks, caramel apples and more sweets. The couple from Washington spent years making homemade biscotti for Christmas, and soon began baking treats for friends or selling them at festivals. The empty storefront on Station Street with all the kitchen equipment already included helped make their dream of owning a business come true. “We got so busy, we started doing weddings and showers and started looking for places to open,” Zach Kuhn said. “It was one of those things where everything fell into place.” Zach, a former foreman for a…

Bridgeville Official Accuses Bedner Developer of Making Misleading Comments

Bridgeville officials emphatically denied claims by the Bedner Farm developer that the new neighborhood development is 'going to connect' to Main Street.

Bridgeville’s solicitor emphatically denied claims by the Bedner Farm developer that the new neighborhood development is “going to connect” to Main Street. Richard Ferris, who represents the borough on legal matters, read aloud to the Bridgeville Council a letter he sent to the Upper St. Clair Planning Commission on Oct. 25. In the letter, he denies claims that he wrote to that township saying Bridgeville would not contest the Main Street entrance to Bedner’s. Heartland Homes President Marty Gillespie told the Upper St. Clair Planning Commission on Oct. 18 that Ferris wrote the township a letter saying they wouldn’t be contesting the connection. Our sister website at Upper St. Clair Patch previously reported on that Gillespie insinuated …

Bridgeville can't make that decision. According to their lawyer, the homeowners on both sides of the property BOTH have to agree to reopen the road. Buying out one of them appears improbably since he's the one who first went to Bridgeville Borough Council asking them to close the officially road.   more ›

Downed Trees Close Bridgeville Road

Downed trees and an unstable hillside closed Ridge Road in Bridgeville near McLaughlin Run Road for several hours Monday.

Downed trees and an unstable hillside closed Ridge Road in Bridgeville near McLaughlin Run Road for several hours Monday. The nasty weather ahead of Hurricane Sandy apparently caused at leaset one tree to fall down the hillside around 10 a.m. Monday. It ripped down at least three powerline poles in the process. Bridgeville firefighters closed Ridge Road for most of Monday to remove the tree and possibly others because of the unstable hillside. One lane of McLaughlin Run Road was also closed to allow crews to remove the debris. Do you have pictures of the downed trees or other storm photos? Post them to this story by clicking the UPLOAD PHOTOS tab on the top and bottom of the screen.

Woman Run Over By Truck in Rite Aid Parking Lot

A Bethel Park woman suffered a severe head injury Thursday morning when she was run over by a truck in the Rite Aid parking lot in Bridgeville.

A Bethel Park woman suffered a severe head injury Thursday morning when she was run over by a truck in the Rite Aid parking lot in Bridgeville. Bridgeville police Chief Chad King said the woman, who is in her 40s, was walking from her car to the store around 10 a.m. when she apparently was feeling ill and inexplicably laid down in the parking lot. A man driving a large pickup truck didn’t see the woman and hit her. He stayed at the scene and frantically tried to get bystanders to call emergency dispatchers after the accident, King said. “He was so worked up he couldn’t find his phone,” King said. King said investigators are not sure if she was lying down on the ground or bending over when she apparently suffered her medical condition. She …

New Bedner Development is ‘Going to Connect’ to Main Street

The controversial new Bedner neighborhood in Upper St. Clair is “going to connect” to Main Street in Bridgeville. Or will it?

The controversial new Bedner neighborhood in Upper St. Clair is “going to connect” to Main Street in Bridgeville, the developers asserted last week. “It is going to connect,” Heartland Home President Marty Gillespie said at an Upper St. Clair planning meeting on Oct. 18. That surely is news to Bridgeville residents, who thought the Main Street entrance was nixed when their town found information that the road is closed unless the two homeowners on both sides agree to reopen it. In fact, Gillespie told the USC planning commission that Bridgeville’s lawyer, Richard Ferris, wrote the township a letter saying they wouldn’t be contesting the connection. Our sister website at Upper St. Clair Patch reported on Monday that Gillespie insinuated …

Police Break Up Fight at Chuck E Cheese

Police officers were called to Chuck E Cheese on Sunday night for an irate woman who was allegedly shouting obscenities around young children.

Numerous police officers were called to Chuck E Cheese on Sunday night for a fight in which an irate woman was allegedly shouting obscenities around young children. Collier police said they were dispatched to the restaurant in Chartiers Valley Shopping Center around 8 p.m. after receiving reports of a fight inside. The fight apparently had ended by the time police arrived, but officers did find a woman shouting obscenities. Police said they charged Timeia Thompson, 22, of Carnegie, with disorderly conduct. They did not say what triggered the incident or if anyone was involved. However, some local people took to Twitter to say that a fight broke out and nearly turned into a riot before nearly a dozen police officers from surrounding …
