Boyce Road in South Fayette will be closed three days this week while construction crews replace a 60-year-old water pipeline. The busy road will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday and probably won’t reopen until Friday. Pennsylvania American Water, which is overseeing the work, announced the road will be closed between Lawn Shadow and Summit Ridge drives. There are posted detours in the areas around Mayview Road and Washington Pike to alert motorists of alternate routes. “This project will address a recent history of breaks and service interruptions caused by this aging main,” PAWC Operations Superintendent Greg Hlasnick said in a press release. “The investment will improve reliability and flows for firefighting.” The $70,000 project…

The complex, along Chartiers Creek, would contain between 216 and 228 units.
A 200-plus-unit apartment complex is proposed for Upper St. Clair. Developer John Deklewa brought the proposal to the township planning commission Thursday for a preapplication conference. The complex would be built on 27.6 acres of property at the end of Boyce Plaza Road, along Chartiers Creek in the southwestern corner of the township. Previous plans to build patio homes on the site were scuttled because of lack of economic viability. Between 216 and 228 apartments are targeted for construction. Deklewa said they will be one- and two-bedroom units, 900 to 1,200 square feet, and probably rent for $1,000 to $1,500 per month. Boyce Plaza Road intersects with Boyce Road near its bridge over Chartiers Creek. Deklewa said the traffic impact …

Owners would like to build a new restaurant behind the existing building.
The owners of Ardolino's Pizza have taken the first step in their plans to build a new restaurant. The Upper St. Clair Planning Commission gave the Ardolinos tentative approval on Thursday night. After opening up the pizzeria 28 years ago, Rodney Ardolino said he's ready to expand. He hopes to build a second building with more indoor and outdoor seating, and lease the existing building to another business that would compliment the pizzeria, such as an ice cream or coffee shop. "We want it to be a family place; a place for kids to come," said Tammy Ardolino, co-owner and wife of Rodney. Rodney and Tammy have two sons in high school, Joseph and Nolan, who participate in the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. They asked the planning commissioners to …

Cash "well into the six figures" flew out of a bank courier van's rear door on Wednesday afternoon.
Upper St. Clair police are working to retrieve money "well into the six figures" that flew out of the rear door of a bank courier van on Wednesday afternoon. Police on Thursday said they've received phone calls from several witnesses and are now pursuing a lead. Officers are searching for two white males that were in a white Dodge Dakota pickup truck that are believed to have made off with some of the cash down Route 19 south. Police have a partial license plate, which they are not releasing. Police said it's not too late for the men, or any other person who may have pocketed the money, to return the cash to the police department. "Technically this is a theft, but under these circumstances we are willing to give people the benefit of the …
