Police say a Scott Township woman left her two young grandchildren in the car to go Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving night.
Scott Township police say a grandmother left her two young grandchildren in the car to go Black Friday shopping in Walmart. Bridget Bruce, 55, of Scott, was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children after police said she went shopping at Walmart and left the grandchildren ages 5 and 7, in the car around 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. Scott police Chief Jim Secreet said he and four other police officers were patrolling the parking lot when he saw the two “well dressed” children walking toward the store without an adult. “It caught my eye right away,” Secreet said. “They were too young.” The kids got the attention of a Walmart greeter and asked for help finding their grandmother. Secreet said he walked over and spoke to …

Today is Cyber Monday, the day that people who did not find all their holiday gifts over the Black Friday weekend turn to the Internet for other shopping deals. Scammers try to prey on Cyber Monday bargain hunters by advertising "one day only" promotions from recognized brands. Consumers should be on the watch for too good to be true emails from unrecognized websites. In advance of the holiday season, the FBI reminds shoppers to beware of cyber criminals and their aggressive and creative ways to steal money and personal information. Scammers use many techniques to fool potential victims including fraudulent auction sales, reshipping merchandise purchased with a stolen credit card, sale of fraudulent or stolen gift cards through auction …

Excitement, experience and sales draw shoppers to South Hills Village.
Linda Book arrived at South Hills Village at 3:30 a.m. with a plan. By 4:45 a.m., she had the shopping bags to prove her plan was working. “We’re here to get the best buys of the season,” Book said. “(The stores) have regular sales, which is great, but we want the really good ones.” She and her nieces, Maria and Amanda, all of Whitehall, admitted that Black Friday shopping is a little crazy. But it’s also fun, they said. It’s a challenge to get the best deals—and they insisted it’s well worth it. The family was pretty pleased with the sales they found, mainly at clothing stores. They weren’t the only early birds to flock to the mall at a time when some people are just crawling into bed, and others have been asleep for hours. Lindsey …
Gloria Jeans Coffee a favorite for early-morning shoppers.
Black Friday shoppers might be amped up on adrenaline when they wake up at 2 a.m., but by 7 a.m. a pick-me-up is what’s in store for them. Gloria Jean’s Coffee is easily one of the most crowded stores at South Hills Village at 7:10 a.m., and owner/manager Sonny Anand said he’s glad the shop can be of service. “A lot of people come here to shop, and a lot of people need coffee,” Anand said. “It really worked out.” The coffee shop opened at 11:30 p.m. Thursday night to catch the customers who came to shop at the stores that opened at midnight. Anand said it was busy until about 3:30 a.m. It picked up again around 5 a.m. and shoppers have been coming in waves. “It’s so exciting,” Anand said. “I really feel passion here. It’s fun. All these …
Managers say South Hills Village customers taking advantage of great deals.
It’s not quite mall madness, but a heck of a lot of people are willing to sacrifice a good night’s sleep to see what’s happening at South Hills Village Friday. The mall opened at 4 a.m. to dole out Black Friday specials to eager shoppers, but some stores opened at midnight. “This is a good crowd for this time of the morning,” said Jennifer Carroll at about 5 a.m. “It’s comparable, if not more people than last year.” Carroll, director of marketing and business development at South Hills Village, said she thinks the nice weather, convenience of the indoor mall and great sales all influenced people to come out on Black Friday. Apps for smart phones, tiered sales and performances are part of the day. “People really strategized this year,” she…
