The May 5 meeting will take place in the Community and Recreation Center.
The rescheduled planning commission meeting on May 5 at 7:30 p.m. will take place at the new Community and Recreation Center at Boyce Mayview Park. Attendees will gather in community rooms A, B and C. The April 21 meeting was postponed and rescheduled due to the large number of residents that attended the meeting. More than 100 people were spilling out of the municipal building's meeting room, which only holds 50 seats. Most of the residents were there to speak out against the proposed text amendment that would allow mixed-use development on the former Consol Energy headquarters land. The residents were optimistic more people would be able to attend the May 5 meeting because it will not be during the school district's spring break. Also on…

Nearby residents organize a petition against plans for a mixed-use development at the site of the former Consol Energy headquarters.
Residents who live near the former Consol Energy headquarters building on the corner of Route 19 and Fort Couch Road are working together to speak out about the proposed amendment to allow mixed-use development. "Local residents are very unhappy regarding the proposed plans for this area," Upper St. Clair resident Trish Hede said in an email to Patch. Developers Gerald Cipriani, of Upper St. Clair, and Hal Kestler, of Mt. Lebanon, will ask the planning commission on Thursday to recommend rezoning the property for a mixed-use development. They envision high-end apartments or condominiums, restaurants, retail and office spaces. "The proposed amendment is an exciting opportunity for the Upper St. Clair community to realize a high quality …

If you drove by Best Buy, Giant Eagle Market District or Bally's on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings, there is a good chance you saw the large banner that read 'Shame on Best Buy.' And if you walked into the Best Buy, you may have been handed a flier asking you not to patronize the store. Members of the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters said they are staging the peaceful protest outside of the South Hills Best Buy and other stores across Pennsylvania, because Best Buy employs out-of-state and out-of-country contractors for their construction work. "They want Pennsylvania shoppers, but they won't hire Pennsylvania workers," John McCoy, a council representative, said. On Wednesday, four unemployed carpenters looking for work …
