A traffic study for several residential roads in Bridgeville suggests a few tweaks to help slow motorists and curtail the number of cars in those neighborhoods. Borough Manager Lori Collins announced some of the findings during Bridgeville Council’s Monday night voting meeting to give the public a glimpse of the findings. The borough commissioned the traffic study earlier this year to see if there could be ways to dissuade Upper St. Clair from opening an entrance to the new Bedner residential development onto Main Street. But when that entrance option was shut down, the traffic study still offered ideas for problematic areas in town. Collins said there were a few minor suggestions for Pesavento Drive, Main Street and Cook School Road that …

Bridgeville is trying to remove an 11-by-25 grass and dirt section of Main Street from the borough’s street plans in order to block the Bedner’s developer from building an entrance in that area. The borough council voted unanimously after a 40-minute public hearing on the issue to grant a neighbor’s petition to close the small patch of grass near a farm gate to traffic. It’s too early to tell if the decision will scuttle plans by the Bedner’s developers to build an entrance there, or if it merely will be a nuisance for the residential plan. “I know this isn’t the solution to the problem,” said Neil Lyons, the neighbor who petitioned the borough. “But it’s something that I have the ability to do to prevent …

The public hearing for the proposed Bedner's Estates 136-lot subdivision is scheduled for Feb. 6, 2012. The Upper St. Clair Planning Commission recommended approval in a 6-0 vote on Thursday, Dec. 15. Planning Commissioner Scott Slagle was absent. The developers—JT Thomas Homes and Heartland Homes—have a sales agreement with the heirs of Bedner's farm pending the township's approval of the neighborhood. The neighborhood plan would take place in three phases. The first phase would create an entrance on Cook School Road and extend Scarlett Drive. The second phase would add a connection to Main Street in Bridgeville. Nearby residents, many from Scarlett Drive, attended the meeting and spoke out against the development. "We all believed …

I could care less, however, recommendations seem to be made more out of spite than common sense. Those streets are all winding, narrow and hilly. Cars can't really speed on them anyway. If someone does, speed bumps probably aren't going to stop them. Might even run the risk of causing cars to go out if control thereby creating a real threat to residents.   more ›
