Upper St. Clair Township officials plan to spend about $1.2 million on road paving in 2013. A list of targeted roads has been developed based on a rating system that looks at road usage, the last year it was paved, the condition, the public input and other similar factors. The list could be changed, especially after the freeze-thaw cycle in the spring. There are also tentative plans to resurface the municipal basketball courts and the Baker Park tennis courts—with pickleball lines. Russell Del Re, vice president of the board of commissioners and chair of the public works committee, said the township repaves about 3.25 miles of roadways each year. A woman accused of stealing another woman's purse in the lower level public restroom in South Hills Village was held for trial on Monday. Kathie Ann Schade, 31, of Larimer, is charged with one count false identification to law enforcement authority. Through interviews, Upper St. Clair police identified Schade as a purse theft suspect on Nov. 26, according to a criminal complaint filed with district Judge Robert Wyda's office. When an officer asked for her identification, she told him a different name and Social Security number, the officer stated. Pickleball court lines will be permanently drawn on the Baker Park tennis courts.
The rising number of pickleball players in Upper St. Clair will soon have a place to compete. Thanks to a group of citizens who requested pickleball courts in Upper St. Clair at the Parks and Recreation Board meeting in August, township officials have come up with an inexpensive way to create an area to play. Permanent lines will be drawn on the two existing tennis courts at Baker Park in the next two weeks. However, the tennis nets will be a little higher than official pickleball nets. There are lights at the Baker Park courts. Pickleball is a combination of tennis, badminton, ping pong and racquetball—and is for players of all ages.
