The Upper St. Clair High School Pantheon Choir, and other local high school groups, will perform in the 45th Annual Holiday Choral Program.
Upper St. Clair and several other local high school music groups are scheduled to perform this holiday season in the 45th Annual Holiday Choral Program in Pittsburgh. The Upper St. Clair High School Pantheon Choir will perform Dec. 19 at 11:30 a.m. on the Grand Staircase of the Allegheny County Courthouse, at 436 Grant Street in downtown Pittsburgh. The following local high school groups also will perform: Performances will be held each weekday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. through Friday, December 19. County Executive Rich Fitzgerald turned the fountain at the Allegheny County Courthouse blue Monday in observance of World Autism Awareness Day. The fountain will remain blue throughout the month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month. “Allegheny County is proud to show our support for individuals and families who are affected by autism,” said Fitzgerald. “We hope by turning the courthouse fountain blue that we will increase awareness of this complex disorder.” Fitzgerald also presented Autism Speaks Pittsburgh Chapter Executive Director Rich Mallow and Board of Directors Secretary Patti McCloud with a proclamation declaring April “Autism Awareness Month” in Allegheny County. The Allegheny County Department of Court Records is reminding the public that it is offering a penalty-free period through Dec. 30, 2011 to encourage defendants to pay criminal fines, fees and restitutions that were referred to collection agencies prior to 2005 by the former Clerk of Courts. To enable the penalty-free period, the Department of Court Records has recalled all Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas criminal cases from outside collection agencies. In the past, criminal cases with a balance owed were referred to outside companies if internal collection methods failed. Approximately 59,100 cases have been recalled that still have a balance due as of July 1, 2011. By law, collection agencies may add up to a 25 percent commission …

The Allegheny County Courthouse fountain began flowing pink at 11 a.m. Friday to mark the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "Everyone knows someone affected by this disease," said Allegheny County Treasurer John Weinstein. "If turning this fountain pink makes one woman in Allegheny County get a mammogram, we have succeeded," he said. The annual tradition is in its seventh year, said Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato. He said the county's role in helping spread awareness was important because the more the public was educated, the better the odds that the disease can be controlled.
