Winning artwork will be showcased in U.S. capitol.
U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) invites high school artists across the 18th Congressional district, including Upper St. Clair, to participate in his annual Congressional Art Competition. Each year, members of Congress are asked to submit one piece of artwork that best represents their district to be displayed in the walkway between the Capitol Building and the House office buildings for a period of one year. “The exceptional talent of our young local artists continues to impress me year after year,” Murphy said. “I’m especially excited to view 2013 submissions under our new patriotic theme. I urge our young artists to take part in this unique opportunity to demonstrate their talents and promote the southwestern Pennsylvania region…

Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, and Democratic challenger Larry Maggi aired on PCNC Tuesday night and got heated when discussing whether Maggi supports President Barack Obama and his health care bill. When Murphy said Maggi "supports the president," Maggi responded: "I'm not in Congress, I'm a county commissioner. I appreciate the title you're giving me, but I have not voted (in Congress) or supported the president." "You said you supported the Democrat ticket and that you support President Obama," Murphy said. "I never said that," Maggi responded. "Yes you did, you said it as the Westmoreland debate. I have it on tape," Murphy said. The candidates also bickered while discussing President Obama's health care …

Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi announced Monday that he is running for the Democratic nomination in Pennsylvania’s 18th U.S. Congressional District. The seat is now held by Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, who is being challenged on the Republican primary by political newcomer Evan Feinberg. “I’m running for congress because southwestern Pennsylvanians deserve a representative who will put the people of the 18th District ahead of partisan politics,” Maggi said. "For too long, too many politicians have put their political careers ahead of the interests of their constituents. As a father and a veteran I have spent my career finding practical solutions to real world problems, and I intend on bringing that approach with me to …

Why wasn't this debate announced ahead of time? I, and probably most of the electorate, was totally oblivious to the event. I didn't see it listed in the Patch, either. And, the same thing with the Raja-Smith debate; I wasn't aware of it either. Patch, can you inform us in advance instead of polling for opinions afterward?   more ›
