Fans are invited to the 'Annihilate the Islanders Rally' in downtown Pittsburgh.
Allegheny County officials are planning an "Annihilate the Islanders Rally" before the Pittsburgh Penguins' first playoff game Wednesday, May 1. The rally begins at noon in the Allegheny Courthouse courtyard and includes giveaways from the Penguins and Turner's Dairy and an appearance from Iceburgh. Val Porter from WDVE will host the event and the Kardasz Brothers will perform live music. The best-of-seven playoff series against the New York Islanders begins at 7:30 p.m. at Consol Energy Center. The avid golfer from Upper St. Clair has built up quite the golf resume.
An avid golf player from Upper St. Clair recently added a unique feat to his golf resume. Jeff Kearney made a double eagle on April 20 at Southpointe Golf Club in Cecil Township, according to the Tribune Review. The double eagle follows a four career holes in one at Hickory Heights Golf Club in Bridgeville. Kearney's double eagle came on No. 6—a 500-yard par-5, according to the report. Kearney, 49, carries a handicap between two and three and golfs two to three times a week. His daughter, Melissa, is the No. 1 player on the Upper St. Clair High School golf team and frequently joins him on the course, according to the newspaper.

A program titled Put the Biscuit in the Net will be offered at Bladerunners in Bethel Park, near Upper St. Clair, the first weekend in May and is open to South Hills girls. It is being offered through the Girl Scouts organization. No experience? No equipment? No problem! Session times are 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 3, 11:15 a.m. tp 12:50 p.m. Saturday, May 4 and 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5. The local golf player has been voted "Most Positive High School Athlete."
Upper St. Clair High School’s Corey Wilding has been voted western Pennsylvania’s “Most Positive High School Athlete” in the sport of boy’s golf by Positive Athlete, an organization created by former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward. Wilding will be presented the award by Ward, along with 27 other winners representing a variety of boys and girls sports, in a ceremony at the Senator John Heinz History Center and Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum in downtown Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 20. Upper St. Clair resident Suzie McConnell-Serio has been hired to be Pitt’s new women’s basketball coach. McConnell-Serio had been coaching the Duquesne Duke basketball team before being hired by Pitt on Friday. "I've been impressed with everything at the University of Pittsburgh and especially their commitment to the women's basketball program,” McConnell-Serio said. “Pitt is about its people and the enthusiasm that they have is really exciting and I'm proud to be a part of it.” McConnell-Serio earned a 123-68 record while coaching at Duquesne for six years. Each year, former students, staff members and/or volunteers from Upper St. Clair High School can be nominated for entry into the three halls of fame—Academics, Arts and Athletics. Jim Render has won more games than any high school football coach in western Pennsylvania history.
Upper St. Clair High School's head football coach Jim Render will receive the lifetime achievement award at the Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame on June 24. Render has reached the state finals four times with Upper St. Clair—winning twice. Speaking of winning, Render has won more games than any high school football coach in western Pennsylvania history with a record of 364-113-5, with five Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League titles. Render was an East Liverpool High School assistant football coach from 1965-67. The induction banquet will take place June 24 in Wintersville. The Upper St. Clair boys’ and girls’ swim teams placed high in both the WPIALs and state championships.
The Upper St. Clair boys’ and girls’ swim teams placed high in both the WPIALs and state championships. The boys’ team finished second overall at WPIALs and the in fifth place in states. The girls’ team placed third in the WPIALs and ninth in states. Both teams were Section 4 champions. The boys set four pools records. Both the boys and girls each set two team records.
