Visit Upper St. Clair's Veterans Park This Memorial Day

The Boy Scouts will hold a ceremony at 8:30 a.m.

This is the first Memorial Day members of the community can visit and reflect at Upper St. Clair Veterans Park.

After years of fundraising efforts, the , Nov. 11, 2011.

A recent large donation from First Energy will help finish "paying the bills" for the monuments. The USC Veterans Park Board of Directors are now working to raise money for the park's maintenance fund and to add a statue of an American military person from 1788—the year was founded.

On Monday, Memorial Day, local Boy Scouts will hold a ceremony at Veterans Park and raise the flags at 8:30 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Throughout last week, classes from walked to the park to visit and learn its historical significance.

"It's important youth be there," said T.J. McGarvey, Marine Corps veteran and president of the USC Veterans Park Board of Directors.

He said one of the purposes of the park is to educate students and visitors, as well as honor veterans and provide a place for peaceful reflection.

This Memorial Day weekend, McGarvey said it gratifying to be able to visit the park.

"It's quite satisfying to me because it's there as a daily reminder," he said.
