Students Start Graduation Gown Recycling Program

Instead of stuffing your graduation gown in the closet, some local boys are collecting them for those who are less fortunate to use.

No need for your children's graduation gowns to collect dust in the back of a closet. Two 16-year-old boys have started a graduation gown recycling program.

Matt Mendelson and Kyle Newlands came up with the recycling idea. They want to give the gently-used gowns to students in Pennsylvania who can not afford to buy a new graduation gown.

Mendelson and Newlands said they have already found schools in need of the Upper St. Clair black and white gowns and they're working on helping other schools with different colors. They hope their idea will create a domino effect across the city, state and country.
