Students Help Raise Money for USC Veterans Park

Upper St. Clair High School students used a pickleball tournament to raise money for the new Veterans Park.

students presented Vicki McKenna, a USC Veterans Park board member, with $250 raised for the Wednesday night.

The students took the initiative to collect the funds during a pickleball tournament at the Fall Banger. Each team of two people donated $5 in order to participate in the friendly competition. A total of 50 teams played.

Pickleball is a very popular game—similar to tennis and ping pong—played in physical education classes at the high school.

The Fall Banger took place on Oct. 22 at the . USC Cares for Kids—an initiative of the Youth Steering Committee—sponsored the event for high school students. About 200 students attended the Fall Banger which included a Velcro climbing wall, a DJ, video games, food and the pickleball tournament.

A dedication ceremony for the USC Veterans Park will take place on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. The park is located next to the and across the road from the high school.

"We wanted it to be accessible for students and for them to be able to have an outdoor classroom experience," McKenna said. "We hope you all enjoy it and learn from it."
