Pittsburgh Red Cross Seeks New Volunteers

The Pittsburgh Red Cross will be holding a volunteer drive and orientation Thursday.

Due to a low number of volunteers this year in Allegheny County, the American Red Cross will be holding a volunteer drive Thursday at its Downtown location at 225 Blvd. of the Allies.

“The local Red Cross is always prepared to respond any time disasters strike Allegheny County,” said Victor Roosen, Response Manager for the local Red Cross. “However, the Red Cross is in dire need of more volunteer responders to assist us in our effort to provide the victims of these disasters with their most essential needs.”

Just last year the Red Cross of Western PA handled an average of 600 disasters throughout the 13 counties with 350 of those disasters occurring in Allegheny County alone.

The two-hour orientation will include an overview of how American Red Cross helps with disaster response, a common occurrence with at least one disaster happening every day in Allegheny County.

The event is free and there will be two sessions for interested volunteers ages 18 and over, one in the afternoon from 1 to 3 and another in the evening from 7 to 9.
