Philoptochos Societies Host 'Women, Wine and Wardrobe'

The event takes place May 19 at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mt. Lebanon.

The Philoptochos Societies of in Canonsburg and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mt. Lebanon are co-hosting a "Wine, Women and Wardrobe" luncheon on May 19 to raise funds for the philanthropies that they support. 

The luncheon will be at The Holy Cross Community Center at 123 Gilkeson Road, Mt. Lebanon, across from The Galleria. Tickets are $50 each. To make a reservation, contact reniepihiou@hotmail.com or call 724-746-2646.

The event features wine tasting, makeovers, a plaza of shops, silent and pick-a-prize auctions, and an informal fashion show. Celebrity stylist Lakisha Pattin will be on hand for the event.

“Philoptochos” means “friends of the poor." Each year, the societies help families in need, often where the household income has been reduced because of illness or job loss. Both church organizations have outreach programs where food is cooked and delivered to shut-ins or other families. 

They also provided backpacks for school children and toys at Christmas. Other recipients are the Washington (PA) Women's Shelter, Ronald McDonald House, Children's Cancer Society and St. Basil's Orphanage.
