Local Celebrities Will Be 'Dancing for a Cause'

Local celebrities, such as Rose Tennant and Athena Sarris, will 'dance for a cause' in Station Square—an event presented by Arthur Murray Dance Studio and Watchful Shepherd USA.

Stars will be out when local celebrities, hometown heroes and concerned citizens gather to raise funds to help fight child abuse.

“Dancing for a Cause” will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at the Sheraton Station Square. The event will offer food, entertainment and dancing, with all proceeds benefiting Watchful Shepherd USA and its mission to prevent child abuse.

The dancing will feature celebrities teaming up with professional dance instructors from .

“’Dancing for a Cause’” has the pizzazz of a floor show with the heart of a charity—necessary ingredients for a successful fundraiser,” said Donna Nardine, executive director of Watchful Shepherd. “It’s an evening full of fun!”

Food will be served from 6:30-8:30 p.m., and the competition will take place from 8-11 p.m.

KDKA Radio’s Larry Richert will emcee the event, and the music and entertainment will be provided by DJ Jiving Johnny.

Celebrity dancers to date are:

  • Athena Sarris Simms, Sarris Candies
  • Sheldon Ingram, WTAE-TV

Individual tickets are $100 each; a table of 10 is $900; and tickets at the door are $125.

The Watchful Shepherd program provides families and child victims with wristbands that can activate an electronic device, which in turn activates a computer monitoring system at its National Response Center on a 24-hour-a-day basis.
