FirstEnergy Makes Big Donation to USC Veterans Park

Representatives presented board members with a $25,000 check on Thursday.

Representatives from FirstEnergy presented the Upper St. Clair Veterans Park Board of Directors with a $25,000 check on Thursday.

"It's phenomenal, I just can't describe it any other way," said Dee Lowery, president of the FirstEnergy Foundation, when asked what she thought of the park. "It's all about being part of the community. We felt being part of this Veterans Park was fitting for our priorities."

T.J. McGarvey, a Marine Corps veteran and president of the USC Veterans Park Board of Directors, said the donation will help finish "paying the bills" for the construction.

The total cost of construction is estimated to be about $750,000, including many in-kind donations.

The board is now working to raise money for the park's maintenance fund and to add a statue of an American military person from 1788—the year the township was founded.
